Dont know why people keep saying next year apple will elimate the home button lol its a new design this year and no it wont go away next year and not even for the iphone 8 on 2018.

The only design I want is the same size screen in a smaller footprint.

After using an S7 edge for the last several months, it will be a small downer going back to the 6/7 series dimensions.

Same here. There are plenty of things I'm looking forward to in the iPhone 7 like smoother performance, taptic engine, better headphone sound, and better battery life, but the actual form-factor itself feels like a step back. Oh, and having used a OnePlus 3 for awhile and liking it's capacitive fingerprint reader/home button I'm looking forward to having that again on the 7.

I think it's about time they got rid of the bezels. The top and bottom especially are huge. That's really the only thing I would like to see change in the future.

..

Or maybe Apple could make a setting where it makes an artificial bezel on your display. That way the whole device could be screen but if you only want a 2" window in the middle of your 6" device then you can have bezels as big as you want..

Brilliant idea!!

I hate when people keep saying they prefer their iPhone with larger bezels. If you like big bezels, you can add a case to a bezelless phone that can be as big as you want. You can attach monstrous handles to each side with wriststraps and gummy grips and whatever you need to help yourself hang on to it. But for the rest of us who have no trouble holding onto a phone without gripping half of the screen, we can't remove the bezels.

If Apple made a bezel-free phone then everybody wins. Apple could even manufacture a special case for special people who need special help holding on to things.

My biggest complaint with the plus is it's too large in my pocket. I love the big screen but I hate trucking around this big frame around the screen.
The flaw in your plan is I don't use a case!

Bigger screen (edge to edge) for the same phone design, size and shape (spacial the SE), or the same screen size (of the 7) but with smaller body, non-protruding camera, and bigger battery would be perfect design update.

They could easily go back to a non-protruding camera, but then it would have to be a smaller sensor and lens that does not let in as much light and there would be no way of putting that new second camera in a non-protruding type.

As far as getting rid of the bezels, top and bottom would be easy enough but then what about the ones on the side that easily allow for a case to be used but still not block the screen?

Seems to me people are forgetting what these devices actually are, mobile computing devices that are also mobile computer screens.

Out of all the people I encounter who have iPhones, I would say over half have cracked screens. So yes, design refinements to a point, but not enough "meat" around these delicate attributes and we are talking about a device that is way too fragile in my opinion.

My most desired design change? Make the exterior of the phone photovoltaic so that we start cutting down on the global carbon footprint of these things. We should all be using less power, not more.

I'm with the people who would love to lose the bezel size. I don't care if there are some, but as is they're way too big.

I'd love to see a 5.5-5.8" screen in a slightly smaller form factor. It's possible, as we've seen from other smartphone manufacturers.

Maybe the 10th anniversary iPhone kills bezels. I'd welcome it, but even smaller would be great.

Getting a new color that is good enough for me. Also going from a 6 to a 7 is a nice bump in specs and features.

It's not that easy to put a camera and fingerprint scanner into the screen. We are not dealing with a single pixel width camera that would not be noticable within the screen. At most, you can have an overall reduction in the bezzels but they will not be eliminated. Also, I can see the bottom bezel being a screen with customizable buttons to the left and right of the home button. People that are expecting to have just a screen with all of the sensors, camera, and speakers being hidden behind the screen are dreaming. I personally wouldn't mind if even just the top bezel was made smaller since that would make the larger plus phone easier to hold in hand due to lower center of gravity.

I have no problem with the look of the design, but the top and bottom bezels need to be trimmed. The 4.7" iPhone is the same size as 5.0" or even 5.1" devices. The 5.5" plus models are larger than 5.7" Notes. The point of larger devices is to take advantage of more screen real estate.

never liked the iphone 6 / 6s because of the antenna bands. the black mostly fixed that.
now i can finally buy one. will be ok for 1-2 years.

I'm sorry.. you actually think we got a new design?

Im talking about the home button, its a new design and it wont go away next year.

Why its so important to have a new phone chasis ? take a look at the last 4 years of the phone market, its the same thing i dont know what are you guys expecting; edge to edge screen with no bezel :D and the home button embedded on the screen.... so now it would impossible to hold the phone and avoid touching the screen ? i sold my 6s + early and im now using a Samsung J7 until my 7+ arrives, its a great phone with amazon battery life but jesus christ i hate how i cant hold the dam thing without touching the digitl buttons.

Its going to tale a few years until apple can remove the iphone chin and make it usuable.

My favourite iPhone design is still the 4/4S. Aside from the small screen I loved the glass on both sides, and it had a heavier, "sturdier" feel to it.

After that the 5/5S/SE is my next favourite design and the thinnest I would like a phone to be. Upgrading from a 5S to an SE was a no brainer for me.

The 6/6S/7 design is too thin and flimsy feeling for my liking, and I don't like rounded edges. The 4.7" screen is a perfect size however, and if we ever got a 4.7" version of the SE design I would be over the moon.

Vanity is not a factor when I'm buying a new phone. I don't care about being seen with the newest design and I don't look around at others and judge them on how current their phone hardware is. People can (and have) pick on me for going from a 5S to an SE and as far as I'm concerned they can go pound sand. It's what's under the hood that matters more and I like having twice the performance in a familiar, comfortable package. At some point the SE design will be retired and I'll move up to a 4.7" phone, but fashion sure as hell won't be a consideration in my choice.

Like many I really dislike the large bezels. I think there are a few phone makers with better phones. I just won't use them because they are not IOS.

I think it needs a new design. I am not a fan of how slippery the phone feels or the way it feels in hand. I personally think the 5/5S/SE are the best designed phones with the 4/4S being a close second.
I agree with this 100%. I liked the sharp edged phones more, they seemed easier to hold onto.
The screen bezels could be reduced in size. The Silent switch could also be reworked? Unless I'm the only one who always accidentally flips it in his pockets.

Still using my iPhone 5.

Let me know when they have the phone on a chip that is small enough to implant.

Then I can think a number and I hear that person in my head. I can think a message and it appears in their head. And I can think where I want to go and suddenly I have all the directions immediately in my head.

No battery. It can be powered by our body's electrical current.

Until then, my iPhone 5 is probably adequate for my needs.

b.c it is the 10 year anniversary of the iPhone and all of the latest rumors point to a new design. If the rumors are true, I expect it to be called the iPhone 8 or a new naming scheme. It will not be a 7S is the rumors hold up.

Lets be honest, this was not a new design. It is more of a 6SS from a design standpoint.

Video game graphics and phone aesthetics is almost the same thing to me. I watched alot of graphics comparisons for games like Grand Theft Auto V and Metal Gear Solid V. I really don't see a major difference between the Xbox 360/PS3 and Xbone/PS4. Sure, maybe the frame rates are better and some better lighting and textures on the newer consoles. But how does it affect how you play the game?

Is seeing Lara Croft's strands of hair in Tomb Raider Definitive Edition on PS4 make the game anymore fun? Graphics have matured to point already that the differences are nearly negligible. Any genre you play, it's the same game with a fresh new coat over and over whether you play Tekken 3 through 7. Different patterns but the core of the gameplay is the same with slightly different tweaking, characters, etc.

In smartphone design, it is becoming the same thing. Redundancy. How different can you make it look? I actually miss some old phone designs and wished some companies rebooted them. I would love a Nexus One reboot. Even if the fresh new coat impresses like people who love great graphics, ask yourself does it actually change the way you use your phone? Is it anymore enjoyable? Or same thing but in JET BLACK?

I have got to a point where I don't want to treat phones as some planned obsolescence fashionable accessory like nice shoes. Design is probably not even Top 3 when it comes to importance for me although it would be a bonus if it looked nice enough. As long as the phone is durable and reliable that quietly gets the jobs done, it's a keeper.

My main points of getting a new phone every year...

-fresh battery since they aren't user replaceable

-a more efficient graphics and main processor to help that battery

-fresh glass and coating since I don't use a screen protector

-new warranty since I don't buy Applecare

-my one year old phone still has great resell value
