As per title.

AFAICS from the Apple Store, the Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader does not work with a 5s, only iPads.

Seems very strange, especially with all the emphasis on the photo apps (now and coming), and this is making me hesitate on which model to get as I'll only get the 128Gb if I can use it to download from my camera's SD card.

TIA

That sucks big time and wipes out my intended 6 128gb purchase.

So, any idea how to get the photos off an SD card and into a 6 when out and about? Ay gizmos ? Wifi ?

Edit; Ok so been doing some reading, any reason the followings wouldn't work, horribly kludgy but ....

Get the SD card to lightning cable.
Connect it to my iPad mini.
Use airdrop to transfer the photos from the mini, possibly directly from the SD card, possibly having sucked them into the mini first. Possibly a few at a time as it's only 16gb !

I can't beleive this, I am actually considering getting a big Android because of this.i could just stick an SD card in and be done. Super irritating.

Have you considered using a Wifi SD card, like Transcend, flashair, eyefi etc, in your digital camera? They should allow you to transfers photos to your iPhone via a Wifi connection.

Another gadget worth looking into is the Wifi card reader/media player from Kingston. I'm not sure if it does actually allow you to transfer photos from a SD card to an iPhone though, as digital cameras have a different folder structure on the memory card.

Yea I'm resorting to wifi. My Sony A7 can unload files pretty quickly. I just hate that I'm using up battery to do so though. But at least I'll have a back up when traveling and won't need to bring my laptop.

My camera doesn't do wifi so I guess I'll need to look for a device that takes an SD card and has wifi. (I could buy a camera that supports it I suppose but divorce can be quite expensive.)

How do you actually transfer the files from your sony ? What function on IOS does this?

Thanks

There's a sony app. You can also get an eye fi card. Pretty much acts the same. I have that in my 5d3.

Has anyone figured out a way to make this work in the meantime? I have an Eyefi card and it's never really worked well for me. I wish I could just plug my SD card into my phone and be done with it...

I currently have an iPhone 6 running iOS 9.2 Beta 3 and the SDcard adapter sold by Apple does indeed work. I am totally stoked the iPhone is finally supported!

Omg that's awesome news!! Thank you so much for sharing! I really, really hope they don't kill this functionality in a future beta. I'll seriously buy like 3 of these adapters if they don't.

Salofelix - Are you talking about the "Apple Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader" when you say "SDcard adapter"? And is this something you had checked at iOS 9.1? I ask because after seeing your post I tried mine again with a "usb powered" card reader, and rather than the "unsupported" message I'd gotten in iOS 8, what comes up now says, "SDDR-113: The connected device requires too much power." I am at iOS 9.1 on an iPhone 6+. The new message I get makes me think a powered usb hub/card reader might do the trick. (My Canon S3 IS camera is pretty old and not supported.)

Me too. Waiting with bated breath to see if release version of 9.2 has this support. When is 9.2 supposed to drop?

Good question! When did 9.1 drop again? Between the betas and final releases im forgetting what came when.

Just sent feedback to Apple on this. Let's hope they keep this in the final version!

That's awesome. Always wondered why this functionality was never enabled.

Very cool. Updated to IOS 9.2 Beta 4 - Version shows 9.2 (13C75) - and an SD Card straight from my camera and placed into a SanDisk SD-113 card reader (actually connected via an Iogear GUH-286 hub thing that is powered and connected to the iPhone 6+ via the Lightning to SD card adapter), works just dandy. Also works connected right to a fairly old camera (Canon Powershot S3 IS).

Have you guys been having any issues using the adapter with an iPad? I was just looking at its page on the Apple website and there are a ton of new reviews since 9.0 dropped saying that that version broke its compatibility with most iPads. However, it does look like most reviewers are/were running 9.0 and 9.1. Maybe this is the reason for the change.
