I'm buying a 2008 polycarbon MacBook for my sister second hand, and I was wondering if it had a LED display, or one of the older fluorescent displays - I looked on MacTracker and Wikipedia, and it says the 2008 MacBook had a "13.3" Widescreen glossy display", not mentioning wether it's LED or not. The reason I ask is because the fluorescent displays can tend to dim over time, while the LEDs stay bright for their whole life.

If anyone knows, that'd be great!

It is not an LED display. If it would be one, it would have been mentioned here.

I've seen them. They aren't LED. Just don't spend too much on one and check the battery for any signs of swelling.

    Ah, I see - Thanks!

The battery in this one got replaced only about a year ago, so that shouldn't be a problem :)

I just checked mine and, nope, it's got a "Built-in Color LCD Display", nothing about LED.

The unibody polycarbonate MacBooks used LED backlights, but the older ones did not.

Yup - rule of thumb with all laptop lines. Unibody = LED. Not unibody = CCFL.

While that works with the MacBook line, the MacBook Pro switched to using LED backlighting standard in the 15" machines back in mid 2007, with the 17" getting it as an option in early 2008 and standard in late 2008.

Actually, that's what it says in my MBA (which has an LED backlit display)

I like that Apple appeals to the masses and calls it an "LCD Display" instead of LCD or LC Display.

Anyway, any LED backlit display from Apple is also an LCD.

Huh, didn't even think about that. Its like when people say vin number, it's not vehicle identification number number, same logic with LCD. It's not liquid crystal display display lol.

I need to hit up the ATM machine for some cash to buy a new LCD display.
