The proximity sensor is the top most "eye" on the camera right?
Well at least once a day I'll be texting or browsing the web and the touchscreen won't respond, and it's because my hand is covering the sensor. But if I reset the phone it stops doing that for a while.

What's going on?

Well if the proximity sensor kicked it, the screen would blank also. But if restarting phone fixes issue, next step would be backup and restore your phone.

Which restore exactly? There seems to be two in itunes.

It definitely kicks in but doesn't turn the screen off.

Two restore options? Should be either update or restore only.
