A lot of my colleagues got the Space Grey. Some look great, but others don't look so good, with bad enough visible scratches to justify a significant discount on resale IMO. In contrast, silvers with the same scratches don't look anywhere near as bad.

If you're afraid of scratches, get a skin. In fact, I got a skin for my silver 2017 MacBook. Mind you, for my silver 2009 MacBook Pro, the thing almost looks new, and I have not used a skin with it. If you really look closely there are scratches, but they are very hard to see otherwise. In contrast, some of those scratches on a Space Grey would look much more obvious.
When I moved up to the 15 inch from the space grey 13 inch, I specifically went with the classic silver because I recall the chipping on my 13 inch.

I second the skin idea.

My 13 inch space grey MBP has scratched very easily across the lid, I think from getting it in and out of a rucksack with laptop compartment. I guess it's the rucksack zip that's done it, but man, I treat the computer carefully. My 2009 MBA still looks like new, not a single scratch, but these news ones scratch up really easily in comparison. I'm now putting a WoodWe cover on it.

Hi there, I was looking to buy a real wood case for my new MBP. I saw few brands like woodwe, TOAST, etc. I am very interested in the woodwe has it's the only one offering a full case that protects the sides and not just a skin on the bottom. I was wondering how it stands over time. Do you like it ?

Thanks ! :)

I've now had a Refurbished 2018 MBP in Space Grey for over 6 months now. I have done next to nothing to protect it beyond just not being reckless with it. This is a work tool that has seen a fair bit of action. I haul it around town in a messenger bag. Its taken a couple of tumbles inside a backpack that fell off of a chair. It's been shoved in with books inside bags. I'm not careless with this laptop, but protecting it isn't the first thought of my every waking hour so things happen.

Nonetheless, it's in fine cosmetic shape except for the plastic on the keycaps being discolored from use. I don't see any obvious scratches. I'm sure I could find some with closer inspection, but there's no easily visible wear and tear. A while ago, it was grimy from dust and dirt that got caked on from my sweaty hands, but I wiped it down and it looks great again. The keyboard works great too.

I had a 2016 MBP pro before this one and had a similar attitude about it. That one did collect a couple of tiny dings and a few small scratches, but none of them were from ordinary handling.

I have no reason to doubt the honesty of anyone who says that they pampered their MBP and still ended up with scratches on their Space Grey finish. I'd suspect that there may be batches where the finish isn't quite as robust for some reason. You can also find people who complain that silver scratches too easily too. I've owned plenty of MBPs over the past 10 years. Most of them were silver because most of them were pre 2016 models. I did have one that got more scarred up than others that I've had.
