Im really wanting to buy an Apple leather case for my space grey iPhone X, but I don’t want to break my phone and I don’t want to scratch the bottom all up. Since Apple was ignorant enough to leave the bottom exposed... so does the band scratch easy? Will it scratch from just dust and dirt in my pocket?

I don't use mine in a case and the chassis/bands has no scratches. I am fairly cautious with mine though.

However, that doesn't mean it can't scratch. The physical vapor deposition coating is durable, but it's not as durable as the Diamond like carbon coating on the space gray Apple Watch.

Yeah the reason I asked is cause I seen threads were people’s x’s Was scratching easy but it was the silver version.

It's fairly resilient if used in a decent quality case. Pronounced abrasion will cause the coating to wear away. My boyfriend's Space Gray already shows signs of steel showing through around sharp edges of the chassis. Silver is your best bet. It will scratch much more easily (micro swirls), but it can be easily buffed out.

Yeah I already have the space grey and I’m talking about an Apple leather case.

No case on my SG since launch. No scratches either. It seems quite resilient to day to day use but don’t expect miracles . If you drop it it will scratch.

Yeah I was just worried about stuff scratching it in my pocket. Like dirt and dust. Not like coins and stuff like that. Or drops.

Mine seems good. I like to change cases for fun and I have used several metal cases that are very tight to pop in and out and I am amazed that so far no scratches whatsoever.

Just wanted to add: mine is a space grey 8 plus, not an X.

No, dust isn't going to scratch the PVD coating on the space gray iPhone. The display is an entirely different issue that can be scratched by debris in your pocket that you can't see. But that likely wouldn't affect the PVD coating on the space gray.

I am about to get an iPhone X but I am confused between silver or SG. The silver bezel is easier to be scratched but the coating on SG might flake after long time used. Anyone with Spay Grey one got problem with it?

Mine has been perfect so far, and I haven’t seen any actual users complaining yet. Quite a different experience from the original black iPhone 5, where people were complaining within 48 hours.

While I have some light scratches on the front of the phone from dropping it several times in our doorway, the bands still do not exhibit any scratches.

Really dust and dirt can scratch the screen? I will have a screen protector on it but there is still small parts of the screen that are not covered.
