Does the TomTom app work without network coverage?

I am thinking of getting the app with the dock but how does the GPS work? Does it rely on O2 network reception because if I am travelling across Yorkshire moors I won't have reception.

I've just been abroad, with data roaming off, and used the app with no problem at all.

It uses no data. It uses nothing but the GPS chip in the iPhone, and the downloaded app. That's why it's so large (almost all are over 1GB); it has the entire map and all the POIs included.

Just the app and your GPS chip.
You dont even need your sim in the phone.
