Does This Exist?

Yes! There was an iPod to iPod sharing adapter made at one time. You can't do much with just the cable and connector though. I believe the adapter had some circuitry in it.

 

If you're talking about transferring data then yes, they exist. However they don't look like that anymore, and I forget what they're called.
