That most certainly looks like liquid damage of some sort. I know you bought it new, but I wonder if it was previously owned and taken back to the store... Things can be re-sealed and BB has done this in the past, it isn't hard.

That being said, you are going to have an uphill fight on that one. It would be best to find someone who can d a board level repair on it for sure.

It's not due to humidity. My best guess is that either one of your friends spilt something on it... Or... it could be a burn mark? I've seen burns on laptops that linda resemble that photo you uploaded. You said the laptop doesn't charge? But it did work before the battery died, correct? If so then I really don't think it's due to water damage.

i live alone, in a tiny Apartment. if i have visitors, it's usually calling so we can go out (without the mac) so nobody has been here to spill anything into it. And when i take it out it's usually briefly, to a library or such and always in my sight. i'm 100% sure i did not spill into it (i never even have liquid near it) and no one else has been near it. That is why i am so shocked that it seems/looks like water damage.

It may not be water damage though...

The battery is not dead..(if you know what i mean?) i'm writing this on the macbook in question now.. as i said earlier.. once i keep the charger in, it stays on the same percentage battery.. Hence, i just keep it at home on charge.

So it's still drawing a charge from your charger/charging port... Interesting. I'll try to do some research for this on your behalf! Good luck and I'll get back to you if I find anything!

What do you mean 'burn mark'?

Thanks, again.

That's not a burn mark. I've seen burn marks on electronic equipment many times over the years. That's very likely water damage from a spill or condensation. You can even see the white left over and corrosion. My guess as I stated previously is that it may have been returned to Best Buy, re-sealed and sold as new. Best Buy is an AASP so who would know the difference?
