Hey there,

Since I am hopefully going to purchase Time Capsule very soon, I was wondering if my existing external hard drive could be used wirelessly with Time Machine through the USB port in Time Capsule.

Thanks,

Ams.

It can, yes. The Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme support USB drives, while the port on the AirPort Express is limited to printers only.

I don't have one myself, but I haven't heard any complaints. I couldn't find any specific information on how external disks work with Time Capsule/AirPort Extreme, but you may find this interesting.

I haven't got a Time Capsule but I'm using an AirPort Extreme with a USB hard drive connected for the Time Machine backups with my MacBook Pro.

It works really well but I would advise you to connect by ethernet for the initial backup to speed things up.
