Does TPU or hard case affect cooling?

Will putting a case on a 13" MacBook Air result in the fans spinning faster due to less cooling via the body to air? Or is the fan cooling doing 90% or 99% of the cooling normally?

There may be a slight increase in temps, but not enough to cause concern. As long as you don't block the vents, which are located at the rear, near the hinge, you should be fine.

I got something almost exactly alike yours....except mines Apple Logo is cutout and is clear rubber TPU plastic case....What I did was take a X-Acto knife and shave the edge that touches the base of the MBAir near the vents because it slightly blocks depending on the position the screen is in. Also the bottom where the grill kind of patter is, I cut some parts of it out and for me it has made a difference not by a whole lot but it has....when using Skype video chat usually my fans scream after about an hour of it, but now they do scream but not as loud....without me having to elevate my MBAir from the rear.

Oh and you might have to cut a little piece of plastic near the Magsafe charger...depending on the year 2011 I hav...n I had to cut a little piece of the corner that holds bottom case onto the MBAir as it was too far out blocking my charger from connecting perfectly.


PS. I could hav done a cleaner job on cutting away the plastic but didn't have that much time due to exams but I had to do something to reduce heat so I did🙂

Like most have said, probably only midly warmer than a naked MBA.

I would however, reconsider if you really need one of these cases. I thought I needed one on my 15" MBP and although it was nice never to hear the metal scratch a table, it started rubbing the metal finish away and denting my computer.

The rubber keyboard cover might be nice if you're clumsy with beverages, but due to the construction of these laptops, it will probably press against the screen if you leave it on with the lid closed and either cause warping or just constant smudges on the screen from your finger oil touching the screen after you've closed it.

I only use a slip sleeve for transport.

If you're worried about scratches, I would consider just covering it with a vinyl sticker set such as the ones made by this company.

Thanks for the responses everyone. In the end my daughter decided to go with a neoprene sleeve and no case.

I do not notice any differences in heat with my hard clear case. I love the hard case, and it is added piece of mind when it is in my bag.
