Does turning off Data save battery life?

how much off diff is on 3g and edge on battery?
and with data turn off?
If i choose Data off will there be any diff on sending texts or calling people on quality or speed?

I'm pretty sure that turning off cellular data just ensures you don't access the internet while on 3G or edge. Useful if you don't have unlimited data and are close to your limit. You can still use wifi all you want. It shouldn't affect call quality or speed of text messaging because you are still using 3G or edge.

I have 3 phones on the family plan without data and they're capable of sending and receiving texts.
