I bought a iPhone from GiffGaff outright from them which was refurbished to new a couple of years ago.

I have an appointment at the Genius Bar tomorrow as it’s misbehaving

Under UK law manufacturers have 6 years to make sure the thing works as expected

Does this still apply if you don’t buy direct from Apple?

That very loose law applies to any company that you buy a new item from in the UK. However it is for inherent flaws, and that is why it’s a very grey area. I doubt you’ll have any comeback with the phone being that age. But good luck anyway.

any claim under UK consumer laws would be against the retailer. Only if purchased directly from the manufacturer would there be any claim against them.

Yes absolutely right, I should have been clearer on that.

The contract of purchase (law) is with whoever the item was purchased from, be it a third party or a direct purchase.

Its 5 years and you have to prove the device is faulty at the time of purchase new. So if it develops a fault especially outside 2 years from new, tough really. Our consumer laws are good, to be fair, but not THAT good lol.

If they can’t fix it, then look on GiffGaff again or Reboxed.com I’ve bought two iphimes from them and they are very good. Phones are accurate to the level of condition they badge them as.
