does warranty stick to only the purchaser?

if a friend of mine bought an ipod nano and gave it to me, would the warranty work effectively for me?

and what about registering the ipod, would i be able to register it myself?

would i have to purchase in cash so there wouldn't be any trace?

The warranty will be passed onto you as long as you have the receipt indicating date of purchase. Im sorry I don't know about you second question however I'm sure there is a way. Give Apple a call and they should prove helpful 🙂

so the receipt couuld have the credit card info and address/everything of my friend, but it doesn't matter? as long as the receipt is in my posession, everything with the ipod including the warranty is under my ownership?

Just register it online with Apple, and I think it should be fine. They keep track of the serial numbers, and when they're sold, so they're able to tell if it's in warranty. And AppleCare is fully transferrable.

It should be fine. At worst, they'll call your friend asking if the iPod has been stolen. If your friend says yes, I'd say a beating is in order 😀

they do indeed keep track of the serial numbers and the date of sale.....but they make mistakes too so it's worth keeping the original receipt

A few years back the company I worked for had a G4 that needed warranty service. Apple's records said the machine had been sold several months before we had actually bought it......they had us bring a copy of the receipt that showed the correct date of sale and that was all it took to satisfy them

so hold on to the receipt!!

when I got my iBook G3 from a pawn shop, some dude named "Neal Schwarz" was the registered buyer, but I told genius bar what was up, and it was all good.

Just don't show up in a striped body suit, a ski mask, and a big bag with a dollar sign on it, and ask about it. 😛
