I had an 1950 xt flashed on my quad but sadly it died and cant find a proper replacment gpus here for the machine on mac os x. Only options i have is the x1900 gt v2 or x1900 xt from mac pro. Do you guys think that 1900 xt will work on the quad with ppc rom or should i get the x1900 gt.

The X1950XT is definitely available from a number of sellers but the price is bonkers.

Probably will have to settle for a 7800GTX and flash it if you can or the 1900GT and live with the artefacts.

The X1900XT is compatible with the PCIe G5's however they needed to be OpenFirmware flashed, so PC and by that, Mac Pro cards will not work. As @weckart said, I would get a 7800 GTX or a FX 4500.

What's wrong with 1900GT? It is natively supported on Mac OS PPC.

ATI sold an official X1900 for PCIe (Late 2005) Power Mac G5 systems but these are hard to find, however a PC version can be flashed with its firmware. As far as I'm aware a Mac Pro X1900 can't be though.

I beg to differ... I found it and just bought one. This guy has plenty of them he tells me.

I ran a Mace edition X1900XT in my office G5 Quad(which is still in storage) for quite a while. I put the card in it probably in 2015 and I last used it late 2019 or so. It was a good card but I never pushed it with what I did on that computer, and in general it started getting a lot less use as more and more stuff I needed for work "broke" on it.

What did you replace it with then?

Replace what?

I shuffled a lot of the PPC-specific tasks I did on that computer to an SL VM on my Mac Pro 1,1 that was in my office, and that I could, at the time, still access Office 365 email, Dropbox, etc from...

I never used the Quad to run OS 9 software since it was a lot more useful to me on Leopard, so some OS 9 only programs or even 68K programs I used were always done on a Beige G3 with a Sonnet 1ghz G4.

I thought that you replaced the card with another to make better of your Quad.

No, sorry. IIRC from the benchmarks, there are situations where the X1900XT outperforms the FX4500, although I don't remember exactly what those situations are.

I also like that it's only single height as opposed to the FX4500.

Okay, I got X1900, it works in the Quad, both in 10.5.8 and 10.6. Official driver/app from ATI also installed in both systems.

I do have a weird issue though that when I choose 1920x1080 resolution, i get a black stripe on the left: that is, whole screen is shrunk (so I do see the whole screen normally, but a monitor has a dead space). When I rescale to other resolution, whole screen gets utilized. Dunno what to make of this. Odd.

Are there any settings related to Overscan?
