Can’t help the attitude. I did 2 weeks of research before I bought it. i confirmed the biggest details with sales people when i viewed the phones side by side. didn't realize there were going to be such bigger issue than what i first feared.

The biggest upset is that I have an older ios on my mac pro that cannot be updated without loosing all adobe software. i will not only be forced into subscription cloud computing costs, i’ll have to buy extra data every month because i’m rural and have a satellite connection. so the new phone is not recognized by the computer. it’s not recognized by itunes. i can’t get my old music onto. i can no longer use the bluetooth with my prius calling system. i can’t get .heic image formats. it’s just a grand slam of issues that i’m trying to resolve one by one by one.

just got off phone with apple and they strongly think the xr will get updated to work with non-face images. they just cannot guarantee it…

With "Halide" app (6,99€) Portrait Mode also works on objects and not just faces.
This photo was shot with Halide and iPhone XR.
In fact there is only a subtle difference to the stock camera app non-portrait-photo regarding the actual amount of blur added due to the already wide open f1.8 aperture.

Well if I listened to everything apple says every hour of every day, maybe i would have heard it. Sellers of the phone state otherwise, even when asked point blank. Just disappointing... a lot of the phone's features and compatibility issues are disappointments. The camera is just one of them.

i was thinking of the halide app in my research. is focos better?

Yea well the best part about that is every third party review video I saw mentioned that fact. Your own fault for not researching as mentioned.

Disappointments? Bro you need to reevaluate your life if "a lot of the phone's features and compatibility issues are disappointments" to you.

Just download the focos app which will enable portrait mode on objects. It's THE best app for taking and editing portait mode pics.

Halide also enables this functionality but isn't as focused primarily on portait mode tuning as Focos is.

Everybody knows it "works on anything" on your XS Max, or a X or XS. The same can't be said for the XR using the native camera app.

Yes. People should make an educated decision and decide whether having the option of taking a blurred picture of a flower is worth $250+.

The native app not being able to do something does not mean it cannot be done. Both Halide and Focus let you use the XR the same as the dual lens iPhones. Personally I prefer Focus. To manipulate the photo, however you must take the original in Portrait Mode.
