My replacement is being built. I hope I'll get a working MacBook, but really, I don't think so. I'll report back.

I received the replacement today, and it too whines. I must say, I believe all MacBooks whine, some people just can't hear it. Incredibly frustrating, I don't know what to do now. I want to return it, but I ordered it in November.

The only thing I have done is open Photobooth, not the best option, but it works... and the whining sound only happens while plugged in, so you don't need to worry about PhotoBooth eating your battery... That's what you get for $1300! :(

I bought my Macbook C2D about a week ago brand new, and there is no "whine" or buzzing sound at all. The fan will run somewhat loudly every now and again but it isn't an annoyance... since my machine doesn't get hot at all :D . Good luck with your replacement!

That would hold except most c2d macbooks work fine with no problem at all.

Mine is one.

I agree the CD models were a nightmare though.

Help!

Yeah experienced this as well the first days I got my MB C2D, however "Shhmbp" removed the whine instantly:)

I did this. It worked. But now my CPU is running 100% all of the time and is overheating. How do I kill ShhMBP and get rid of the noise and not overheat?

I have the MB from my sig bought in Oct08 and it's silent. You can only hear the fan hum silently (@2000RPM) in a completely quiet room. No CPU whine.

I just noticed I have this problem, too. It sounds like buzzing, as if it was giving off electrical charge somewhere inside to body of the computer.

I can only hear it when I put my ear up to the left side and it goes away under heavy CPU load.
