The Apple Store just called.
they've run all the diagnostics they can
they can't find an issue, and apparently they "can't reproduce the daily use of the machine" for full testing.
So after 4 days in diags I am able to pick it up...in the same state I dropped it off.

gonna run a full re-install of everything and take it slowly.
if the problems persist I'm just going to have them replace the machine, fingers crossed it won't come to that.

my mac pro is about 2 months old and has been giving me nothing but trouble, I was wondering if anyone had any of the following problems with their machines....

Had an iMac with very similar list of problems (vanishing Superdrive, Airport dropping out, sound output). Had to send it back. They "fixed" it 3 times before I asked for a new one. Logic board apparently. If I were you i would return it pronto.

Good luck

My Superdrive does the same thing. After the computer being on for a while it just stops responding. Can't run the disc or eject or get info.

Thinking about buying a Pioneer drive and swapping it in. They are so cheap it's worth a shot.

reverts to internal speakers - after a restart or a boot from off my machine will revert to it's internal speakers.
system pref's still has my Bose Companions listed as the default and music and movie sounds will come through them, but all system sounds and oddly enough anything played through quicktime will come through the internal speakers, the keyboard sound controls apply to the internal speakers and do nothing to the Bose speakers.
I'm left having to reboot, changing sound to internal then back to external ins system prefs does nothing.
Happens - Every couple of times I boot my machine (seems to happen a lot after a forced restart due to one of the above problems)

I had the same issue and pegged it down to perian, do you have this installed?

What I found was if i took the preferences folder from my user folder and dumped it on the desktop, logged out and logged back in, then replaced the newly created prefs folder with the old one, log out and then back in it was fine.

For me, these issues disappeared with Leopard though. Hope this helps in some way ;)

Bluetooth mouse + cell phone problem

Bluetooth lag - I have the same problem but with a Logitech V470 mouse. Whenever I connect my cell phone to my MBP via BT the mouse moves crazy. I have to restart the mouse to fix the problem. My BT came installed with the MBP. I've tried with Nokia and Sony Ericsson.

Crap, everything was ok until I read this thread ... my CD-ROM drive disappeared from Finder and eject isn't working.

First problem I have had with a few day old Mac. :(
