I have a SS Apple Watch with black sports band and out of the box the digital crown feels a bit soft/mushy when pressed and doesnt have the obvious click feel I get when I tried out my brother's Sport model.

Is it due to a difference in construction/materials or did I get a lemon?

Might be dirty. Try running it under the faucet.

Did so quite a number of times. Still doesn't have the obvious hard click that you feel like when you get a brand new iPhone and press the home button.

Mine's bordering on "stiff" or "soft", something like a home button that's been used for a year or two.
