So I've heard a lot of people get over heating, core shut downs etc on their MacBook Airs when on youtube, well I just watched a 5 min video and my temp never got above 60c at the default fan speed and didn't have a core shut down either. Or are you guys watching youtube for hours on end before you have issues?

The newer (week 11+) systems have a slightly different cooling system apparently, their systems are a lot better in terms of cooling. My system, with current settings, does have the fans turn on during youtube videos but no core shutdowns.

You don't know if this is true. It could be caused be any number of things.

It's a bit dangerous to make assumptions without facts as there are those who will sell theirs and buy a new one (myself for example) :D

Its no different hardware, its different on how they manfactured the logic board. Apparently, from what I've seen, if you were to add pressure to the CPU/Chipset die, make a better contact, you would not have these type of core shutdown problems. Our heatsink is extremely light, therefore it wouldn't have that extra weight to hold it down. And our heatsink is upside down, making the contact a little less effective.

I was told when I purchased my macbook air that mine was a second revision and that the first ones did have problems with core shut downs.

    I've never had a shutdown.

But, this thing's fan is very hyper.

I'm wondering the life expectancy of it. I'm sure the maker of the fan didn't envision this sort of abuse. :D

Technically, I think there is only one Macbook Air "revision" (they are all 1,1). Maybe there was some sort of improvement as later batches of the first revision were made, but I don't know of any official statement by Apple.

I get fans running, never have a core shutdown. Watched some high def videos on vimeo and watched the temp hit 70 degress Cel and still didn't have any core shutdown.

as typing this itunes is streaming internet radio, safari is open with 3 tabs and msn messenger is running and my writing keeps falling behind as I type :) (do you guys think this is too much for a portable mac?)
There is no need for youtube to have a core shutdown on my air.

It definetly needs a lot of air :D

It's week 8, I am waiting for my roommate to arrive so I can have this serviced (hopefully)
