Does ZiPhone 2.0 (Mac) unlock a 1.1.1 OTB 3.9BL iPhone?

I've been reading mixed opinions. Some people say ZiPhone 2.0 (for the Mac) does indeed unlock a 3.9BL (thus creating a sim free iPhone and doing away with the need for anySIM), some people say it doesn't, and within the app it states '(only for 4.6BL)'.

So I'm confused! I don't want to update my phone to 1.1.3 though iTunes only to find out that it wont work for me.

    Thanks!

ZiPhone 2.0 does indeed work with the 3.9BL, and you upgrade to 1.1.3 using iTunes first.

At least with the 3.9BL, you can always downgrade if you really, really need to.

I am going to do two phones - my new 16gb'er and my existing unlocked and jailbroken 1.1.1.

I know the new one will be straightforward (though prolly no YouTube). And I know I can restore my old 1.1.1 phone to 1.1.3 with iTunes. But, if I do that will I need to activate with iTunes (ie. ATT) or will iJailbreak/ ZiPhone do that for me too? Would it help to run the Virginizer script from unlock.no?

Okay, I have a 1.1.1 iPhone with 3.9BL. Do I simply update it to 1.1.3 in itunes then run iJailbreak?

will it leave me unlocked to use Vodafone in the UK?

Same position. Unlocked 1.1.1 on Vodafone.

What are the exact steps to get to 1.1.3 unlocked with everything working?? Using a Mac?? 10.5.2??

ZiPhone does it all after you upgrade with iTunes.

You probably won't have any problems, but people who do seem to have customised their phones more extensively. In those cases, restoring the phone to factory settings first has often solved their problems. There's a thread with more details if you need them.

    Get ZiPhone.
Let iTunes upgrade you to 1.1.3.
    Put phone in restore mode.
    Run ZiPhone.

I'll do this tonight but first a few important questions...

    1) My 1.1.1 iPhone is jailbroken and unlocked. Will updating to 1.1.3 in iTunes "brick" the phone or will I still be able to do what I need to do to get Ziphone to unlock it??

    2) Will everything work with the Ziphone unlock (apart from Locate Me??) I mean Calls In/Out, SMS In/Out, Edge, Wifi, YouTube etc...??

Thanks in advance for all your advice.

I just upgraded my 1.1.1OTB 3.9BL iPhone and everything works perfectly.
    1.1.3: Check
    SMS: Check
    Wifi: Check
    Calls: Check
    T-Mobile: Check
    YouTube: Check
Google Maps (with locate me): Check

Follow the step above for ZiPhone, or alternatively (like I did) use iJailBreak and do the following:

1). Restore iPhone to 1.1.3 using iTunes.

2). Quit iTunes and run iJailbreak with your iPhone plugged in (in normal, not recovery mode)

3). Click 'Jailbreak', then choose to either jailbreak it alone or also unlock for other sim cards.

Wait 2 minutes, code runs down iPhone screen. Done!

    :D

My main question is that if my iPhone is an UNLOCKED 1.1.1 then will restoring to 1.1.3 in iTunes brick the phone or will it be okay to perform the jailbreak and unlock??

Do I need to do any kind of virginzing first?? I had to virginize to go from unlocked 1.0.2 to unlocked 1.1.1. Will I need to virginize now??

OK, so I downloaded the 1.1.3 firmware to my Mac. Connected my unlocked 1.1.1 iPhone to my Mac, ran iTunes and did a sync to back everything up.

I then pressed ALT and OPTION on the keyboard and selected RESTORE at the same time. This then got iTunes to ask me where the restore files were and at which point I pointed to the 1.1.3 firmware that I had already downloaded.

iTunes then restored my iPhone to 1.1.3

I then followed the instructions here...

    http://modmyifone.com/wiki/index.php/Unlock_Activate_Jailbreak_113_iPhone

    So far, so good.

    Yup. iTunes 7.6

Need to do more testing but everything is working okay, so far.

Just putting all the content (movies, music, photos, address book etc) back on my phone.

Once that's done I'll test all the functions.

SVA - I think I am in the same boat as you, in fact you sent me a reply to my post yesterday. I'm on Orange, with an unlocked 1.1.1 3.9BL phone, but so far haven't had the ooomph to go do it. But if you say it works well for you then I think it will work for me too?

Can you just repeat the exact steps you did to get it working please. Also where dod you download the 1.1.3 from?

    Thanks!

I'm kinda hesitant to post my little guide, a bit scared that you'll follow it and brick your phone or something. All I can stay is that it worked without a hitch for me, and I was on 1.1.1 with 3.9BL so the result should be the same. I did mine on a mac running leopard 10.5.2.

With that out of the way, you'll need to download the 1.1.3 firmware from here and iJailbreak which you can get from here.

    1. With the iPhone connected, head over to the iPhone tab in iTunes and hit alt + Restore, browse to the 1.1.3 restore file you downloaded and hit Open. You should get a few prompts and the iPhone will shut down and just display the apple logo. It takes a while, just leave it.

    2. With the restore finished, you'll get a message telling you that the iPhone will reboot. It will re-boot into the emergency screen.

    3. Quit iTunes. Some people tell you to quit iTunes helper too, I just quit the app.

    4. Run iJailbreak from the desktop (this might not be necessary, but I got an apple script error when I ran it from another folder). When you get the option, choose Jailbreak and Unlock.

    5. Wait. You should see a lot of code running down the iPhone screen, it took about 3-4 mins for mine to finish. iJailbreak will prompt you when it's done. The phone might restart, and when it re-boots it should be unlocked with the installer on the home screen.

That's exactly how I did it and I've got everything working (including YouTube and Locate Me). When I first fired up installer to install the BSD Subsystem installer wouldn't download the packages - I restarted the phone and all was fine.

Good luck if you do decide to try it, don't hesitate to PM me if you have any more questions.

Worked for me but I never used iJailbreak.

I used the modmyifone Mac OS X GUI for ZiPhone 2.0.

The instructions are exactly the same though.

This is the easiest and quickest unlock I have yet seen for the iPhone.

    OTB 1.0.2 -> 1.1.1 ->1.1.3 ZiPhone and WORKS!

:cool:I bit the bullet today, and almost pissed my pants waiting for the ziphone to finish. Have an OTB 1.0.2 unlocked and updated to 1.1.1 unlocked then to 1.1.3 and ZiPhoned, and applied some fixes because of the new installers bugs that does not give the correct permissions to certain apps folders, and voila! Everything works!!!

After you have an unlocked iPhone, you still have a couple of fixes you need to do in order to fix some of the app crashes that is caused by a bug in the new installer.app:

First off, install community sources from the system category, or you won't be able to download apps in the installer.app

Then install BSD Subsystem and SSH in order to do the fixes listed here (No you can't use the terminal app natively from iPhone, logins fail):
    http://george.zjlotto.com/index.php/2008/02/02/fix-application-issues-in-113/

The apps that kept crashing on me before these fixes were: iRadio, VNotes, LocateMe... maybe there would be more, just did not test all :D All is in working condition now. Let me know if I can answer any questions!

As always, use at your own risk, don't cry to anyone if you brick your phone, I am only sharing my experience.

ZIPHONE ROCKS!!! One click WONDER! MAKE SURE TO DONATE TO ALL THE PEOPLE THAT ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS! You can get the latest and greatest GUI ZiPhone from http://iphone.unlock.no

which file to I restore with?

I too am trying to upgrade my OTB 1.1.1 3.9BL iphone to 1.1.3. I am a T-mobile user, with iTunes 7.6 and a Mac running 10.5.2

The guides posted so far seem really helpful, but I hit a snag when confronted with this problem:

I downloaded the 1.1.3 file as mentioned above, and opened iTunes , hit Alt + Restore and then went to navigate to the file I downloaded.

    My Question is -

    Which file to I select from the download? There are 3 .dmg files (022-3743-100.dmg <122.6mb> , 022-3745-250.dmg <17.9mb> and 022-3748-284.dmg <17.9mb>)

Below that I see a folder titled "firmware" which opens to contain two other folders (all_flash + dfu)

I want to be certain that I restore to 1.1.3 with the correct file.

    please someone explain that !!!

    Thanks

    1.1.3 file download

    Hello there,

I used a windows XP but the firmware is not a dmg file, the file name and format you are looking for is iPhone1,1_1.1.3_4A93_Restore.ipsw for the firmware 1.1.3 (be advised that 1.1.4 firmware is out I heard do not update to this version yet!)

You can download the file from here:
    http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-4061.20080115.4Fvn7/iPhone1,1_1.1.3_4A93_Restore.ipsw

If you want to follow up on news and other stuff about iPhone, I use the following site: http://iphone.unlock.no.

    Hope this helps :D

Yeah similar issue. Its the .zip file. It seems to automatically unzip and create a iPhone1,1_1 folder with those files inside.

How does one keep the proper file extension ?

Edit..... simple worked it out myself. Safari / Archive Utitlty automatically unzips the folder. But you don't want it to do that. The original Zip is moved to the trash can. Drag it out onto your desktop. When iTunes looks for the folder point it to the zip file and it will uncompress it.

Just 1.1.3'd my 1.1.1 Vodafone Ireland iPhone and all is working very well.

It only took about 2 minutes using the iJailbreak method :)
