Oh I know I’m not getting HDR, was just saying that I’m already finding some games blinding! Naughty Dog has some truly impressive dynamic range, even with the standard signal. In general, I do think HDR is most suited to gaming and live TV/news. But I’m an old school movie snob/filmmaker who thinks movies should look like an escape. A bit dreamy and better looking than real life. I was kicking and screaming when The Hobbit came out in 48fps!

Ha, I know what you mean. I used to spend a frankly obscene amount of money getting everything to look the way I thought it should, that being as if I was looking through a window.

But I’m coming round these days a bit, I like HDR when it’s done well because, well for instance if I walk through a pitch dark tunnel and out into bright sunlight, it takes that little moment for my eyes to adjust when everything is overblown and super bright.

When it’s done properly that’s what I see in HDR and I like it. There’s also more subtle gradations in the colours.

But I do agree that when done badly it’s an affront to my eyes. It’s as if they’re trying to shove it down your throat to prove they are doing it. Instead of concentrating on creating a beautiful canvas.

Interesting...
It sure is when we are on the move but there is a better option when home...an LG 65” 4K (HDR10 & Dolby vision) OLED and a netflix sub. to watch some 4k dolby vision & HDR10 content 🙄

Welcome to the world of Note 8 users!
The world of note 8 users is the world of an operating system that baffles me, not only for the utter incoherence of the OS itself, but for the bizarre yet constant attempts at recruiting iOS users.

I have spent literally zero minutes on an Android forum. But Android users spend an inexplicable amount of time on this iPhone forum.

Psychology 101 would describe that as straight up classic inferiority complex.

I have no dog in this fight. Android might be a fantastic OS, but the sheer amount of iOS haters on macrumors suggests a serious personality flaw.

Just a quick question. Shouldn’t brightness be set to max when watching a HDR video? On my Samsung HDR tv, the backlight gets set to max when HDR is activated.

Also is would be handy if there was some sort of notification pop up when HDR is activated.

iPhone 8 also has local dimming LCD. Although to not the same extent as the X, it will give you enough contrast for a mobile screen
