So after having a ton of issues with Verizon and cheap-quality phones and poor service, it looks like I will probably be switching carriers and I am probably going to use this as an excuse to switch to AT&T and the iPhone.

The one question that I have that I haven't been able to get clearly answered through the fine print on AT&T's website is if there is any roaming charges for domestic text messages. I spend a few weekends each summer in an area of NH where I would be roaming, from what I read there is no roaming charges for calls (although I don't call much anyways), but what I haven't been able to find is if there are any charge for domestic roaming text messages. I text quite frequently so I would be getting the unlimited plan and I'm wondering if anybody can answer for me if there are roaming charges for domestic text messages.

You'll have no extra charges as long as you stay under the off-network text messaging limit, which is the lesser of 50% of your plan's included text messages, or an absolute maximum of of 3000 texts per month. The absolute maximum applies in cases where you have more than 6000 included texts in your plan, as well as in cases where you have an unlimited texting plan.

If, in two consecutive months, you consistently go above the 50% or 3000 limit, then corrective action can be taken. The corrective action could vary from switching you to a plan that does charge extra for off-network usage, to blocking you from performing any off-network activity, to completely removing you as an AT&T customer.

You are also correct that that normally there are normally no roaming charges for voice calls. But, if in two consecutive months, your roaming voice usage exceeds the lesser of [edit] 40% [/edit] of your monthly voice allotment, up to a maximum of 750 minutes per month (for unlimited talk plans), then similar corrective action can be taken.

A similar policy exists for roaming data usage that exceeds 20% of your monthly data allotment, up to a maximum of 24 MB (for unlimited data plans).

It's here, about 1/3 of the way through the massive first paragraph, with the bold heading Off-net Usage.

Note that I made a mistake when talking about off-net voice minutes. The limit for voice minutes is 40% of your monthly allotment up to 750 minutes maximum, not 50% as I had said before.

Thanks! Despite reading that entire Terms conditions document before I somehow missed that, thanks!
