I reached to put a SD card into the SC card slot on my 6 month old 27" imac and realised that I put it int the CD drive! :(

Any tips on getting it out?

Search through the forums. Believe it or not, this is nowhere near the first time this has happened. Good luck!

    still not coming out

I tried the videos on youtube. Made an L shaped cardboard thing. Tipped it on the side a shook it.

    Still not coming out.

I just tried putting a CD in and it only goes in half way so I guess the card is stuck near the back. Shaking it didn't seem to do anything - it didn't rattle.

It would be funny..... but I want the picture back (dad's 80th birthday) and I'd like the imac as well....

    That's a bit harsh

the 27" imac is huge and the slots are next to each other and are the same width.

    Happy Easter

Have you tried prizing it out with a straightened out paperclip? Worked all the time to get stuck floppy disks and CD ROMs out of the ol' Preforma back in the day :D

This must be pretty common, I thought this was an old thread, but realized it is new. The last one I saw was about a month ago.

    Update

Took into Apple store and they couldn't get it out easily, so it has had to stay in overnight for a full dismantle. Quoted me £24 which is reasonable.

I think I may tape up the sd slot from now on!:)

I guess this is why I think Apple needs to offer a mid sized headless computer that is big enough to put slots and jacks on the front instead of people having to try to do things blind.

    Final update

Bad news - the screen was broken when taking it all apart to fix the super drive and the fnal bill game to £550!

Good news - Apple did it all under warranty (??) so charged me £0. And I got my memory card back, new super drive and new screen

    Lucky boy! :)

Since you took it in for repair and they quoted you 24 pounds I guess they broke the screen. If tech broke the screen they should repair it for free indeed.

If you can safely remove it, safely remove it.

If not, if you have the tools and the inclination, remove the optical drive from the iMac and remove the cover of the optical drive and then you can very easily pluck it out.

Otherwise, bring it to the Apple Store and they should happily remove it, likely free of charge.
