Kind of prepping for an exit ‘stage left’ from Twitter here. Anyone found a usable Mastodon desktop client? I was using Tweeten and found it acceptable.

Finding an app for Mastodon is easy, using it is a whole other story. I wouldn't invest much time in Mastodon, it's not going to be around long – at least, not as the "Twitter replacement" that people think it will be.

Smart money is to wait things out on Twitter. I suspect that in six months, Twitter will be very different than it is today... and yes, it will still be around.

My attempt at Mastodon was a frustrating experience. The first "server" on which I tried to create an account never sent me the required email, even though it was supposed to be an "automatic" one. The next one I tried worked…but then I tried logging in on the iOS app and it wouldn't accept my credentials.

As far as I can tell there's nothing of interest to me on Mastodon as of yet.

If I were flying on one of his rockets or driving one of his cars I might be concerned that Elon Musk is spending all this time with Twitter. Then again, the folks working on those things might be happy and perform better if he's not breathing down their necks as much.

Are you so sure about that, 75% of the staff left and the infrastructure is basically on autopilot and when something breaks, it will eventually lead to the site going down, especially with not so many people left. Not to mention, they are losing money quick as advertisers don't want to advertise on a platform that has objectionable content such as hate speech. Also, I heard the micro-service that detect copyrighted content is down and people are uploading full length movies. Obviously, that will get Twitter into more trouble, losing more money in addition to possibly violating the FTC decree they have on them

I think Twitter will die probably in a few weeks to a few months. The service is finished since a certain someone decide to run it to the ground. It's a shame, but it is what it is.

I think Mastodon will improve, decentralized social networks are still in it's infancy. Of course, Twitter didn't get to where it was overnight, obviously.

FYI - - already happily dumped Twitter (literally feels like a breath of fresh air) and already found 90% of the connections I used to follow on Mastodon (YMMV). My experience on Mastodon is great, easy, and aside from the occasional slow down (due to mass Twitter migrations) really has been a joy. The noninvasive decentralized service is still in its infancy and it’s still ramping up, but I have to say ‘wow’ . . . . feels pretty damn seamless to transfer for my personal interests and now I’m forgetting that I’m even off of Twitter . . . . except for that feeling of WAY LESS BAGGAGE. IOS app Metatext works great, and the web-based desktop access just fine on my Mac. Goodbye Twitter . . . . no regrets and no looking back! I’m over it.

For anyone interested, here is an updated list of 1000+ journalists and their publications that have opened active Mastodon accounts in the last week and a half:

I do understand though that Twitter has emerging benefits, like one user who took the new opportunity to post the entire The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift movie in a series of two-minute clips spanning nearly 50 tweets.

Like I said . . . . over it.

Latest theory is someone wants Twitter whacked because the 1st amendment prevents it from being legally shut down. Musk is the assassin, terminate with extreme prejudice. He will not lose money.
