There's nothing wrong (or un-fresh) about the service replacement units. Just take it.

I guess you didn't read my earlier post.. Do a search and you will find people on their 4th,5th,6th or even 7th iphone, ipad, macbook, macbook air etc. and they still have an unacceptable unit....

James, there's people that are on their 20th replacement of iphones, macbooks etc...
Do you really think that they really picked up tons of bad refurbs time after time again or maybe there's something wrong/anal about them that they keep returning them for? Think about it.
I'll let you do the research and find out people that usually get a replacement they're happy with it and cannot even tell its refurbished.
Everyone knows Apple's refurb process is top notch and some of the best replacements in the industry.
Also their customer service is great.

Right, and these people are complete nit-pickers. I remember someone posting about how they returned their maybe third iPad because it had a white dust speck on the screen that was only visible when the device was off. That's not a normal complaint. You cannot expect the impossible - i.e. perfection. A refurbished iOS device from Apple is 98% comparable to a new device - new battery, new outer shell, etc. And there's always a one year warranty.

My sister got a brand new iPhone 4 a few weeks ago but she bought it from Orange. It had a sticky home button, so she contacted them and was told it would be replaced in-store by Apple. Of course, when she got there they offered a refurb. With a bit of a struggle, she got Orange to take the phone back and replace with a new one, with a little help from a fault report written by a genius guy in the Apple store.

I see both sides of the argument here. On one hand, why should someone except a replacement for something they bought brand new? On the other, there are a lot of whingers out there in the world who will never be happy with anything they are given.

I personally wouldn't accept a refurb for a brand new phone. I'd also consider taking them to court if it came down to it, given I parted with cash for a NEW product. What confuses me about this post is the fact that Apple didn't directly replace it. Did you buy it direct from Apple? I've seen people 6 months into their contract who have got complete replacement phones for cracked screens from Apple (UK). If you bought it somewhere else, this is unlikely to happen though.

(As a side issue though, posting a topic like "don't buy this because it's crap" will rarely get you very far with sensible discussion. Just because your experience is bad, it doesn't even equate to the millions of other people who love their device)

To anyone skeptical about a refurb, don't be. My mother got her iPhone 4 exchanged due to a strange light leak on the outer edges of the screen. The refurbished device was absolutely flawless. I literally inspected every inch of that phone and nothing. I couldn't find a single thing to be nit-picky about.

Now I know why Apple is making so much money - selling and reselling sub standard poorly manufactured phones over and over again.

Seriously considering abandoning Apple products completely - the legendary Apple service and quality has disappeared. Back to to Windows!!!! and Android ????

1) Nice generalization. If your experience were typical Apple would have gone belly up years ago.
2) Sounds more like you realized a new iPhone 5 is coming.
3) You seemed more upbeat about Apple in this post: https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/13117917/

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_5 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8L1 Safari/6533.18.5)

While agreeing 100% about refurbs being as good as brand new phones, I do have one reservation.

I had my iPhone 4 replaced for a sticky home button about 6 months ago. When turning it on, I found that the (presumably) previous owner's iTunes login was still in the device's memory. That rather concerned me given that my own device was likely to be similarly refurbished and also makes me doubt the thoroughness of the data wipe process. I mentioned it in the post-visit survey I received.

have had 3 iphones, none has lasted a year

what is their expected life??

Iphone 3S - one week before warranty (luckily) was replaced, looking below at replies it would seem that while it looked new it was a reconditioned one.

Iphone3S replacement did not last a year, and I was told that it was not guaranteed and could not be replaced

Bought Iphone 4 and have just had the restore to factory settings message, it has stopped working, I am away on holiday and unable to restore and fear it has also died. It is under a year old.

THIS PISSES ME OFF!!! I expect at least 2 years out of such an investment
has anyone had that>!

There's gotta be something. They dont make them with an expiration date to die a few days after the year warranty is up.
I still have my original iphone 2G from June 2007 and still runs fine.
Slow as hell compared to my 4S but functioning.
Some people's cellphones dont survive longer than a few months depending on how they use or abuse them.
