In well under a decade the many expensive, audiophile-grade Lightning headphones will become obsolete when Apple switches over to wireless charging and forgoes the Lightning port altogether. While this is partly speculation at this point, do you really want to risk purchasing headphones that could be entirely useless as soon as the next iPhone model is released? Either go wireless or wait for better wireless solutions to be released.

decent headphones come with removable cords. yiu can't really predict wireless connections but it will take a while before it will replace the cord.

All I can predict with complete confidence is that at some point there will be no wired connectors on the iPhone. Whether that's next year or next decade I couldn't tell you for sure.

1. They're not going to release lightning headphones and then eliminate the jack 12 months later. Count on lightning to be present for at least 3 years minimum. Even after wireless charging, it'll stay as the accessory port.

2. Who makes accessory decisions with years or decades in mind? I don't expect any of my gadgets to work in a decade, much less accessories for them. Headphones are a 2 to 4 year lifespan product (if one is a heavy user). But even if less, it's not that expensive to replace later.

This. Manufacturers will be equally as short sighted if they make fixed-cable headphones for every different type of connection.

The most future proof headphones are going to be BT with a detachable cable. If you can find a pair that sound good with both connections with the other features desired, then that's the pair to buy.
