Yeah but how did it not work?

I'm curious if anyone really checks the crash logs to see if anything there stands out.

I'm not bashing anyone here nor is my intention to, but I had an issue with one piece of software that constantly crashed, turns out it WAS NOT the software in quesiton, but another app that was installed. Ok ok ok, it was APE (Application Enhancer) that was causing the issue. Didn't realize it until I read the crash log.

Try uninstalling (use something App Zapper it's a GEM!) then re-install.

when i was getting kernal panics, i did read the logs, and yes it was because the LCC installed APE and was the culprit. i removed both pieces and everything was just fine. been using usb overdrive since.

I have never had a Kernel Panic on my 16 month laptop running LLC with a keyboard and mouse.

I believe that I had to use LLC with my MX Air because of the gyro functionality. For example change song by rolling the wrist, volume by horizontally sliding mouse. I can't imagine that SteerMouse covers this.

Logitech hardware best I've ever used! Software, this jury is still out...

Yah, APE has caused many issues, yet if you goto APE support they hate it and blame the "Other" software. Which is understandable, but I mean, it is logitech's fault for depending on such a product and LLC should (and is now) be an independant software only relying on the native OSX code, not some Monkey's code. I do not nor will I ever trust APE (that's just my view and I'm not pushing it on anyone)

i don't trust APE at all either, and its a pain to remove totally.

i wasn't aware that LCC no longer used it though, as i've stayed away from it since then. APE is technically a hack and i was surprised that Logitech was lazy enough to use it.

My bet is (and you pretty much said it) that APE has been causing all these peoples issues not LCC itself. Sure it uses it and yes, that DOES make it a bad product, but the root cause is APE. I can't remeber if when it prompted me to install it, I said go ahead or not. I knew APE caused issues prior to installing LCC before so I didn't want it at all on my machine or any other Mac I owned.

Someone posted earlier the newer version does not use APE.

Heck I don't even trust GROWL that much.

well yes, its APE causing the issue, but its LCC fault for using it in the first place. so in a way its all LCC's fault for the crashes.

i don't trust it because in all reality it is a system hack.

Have you used LCC 2.4.0?

Yea, I've used em all. Until a few hours ago, I had a folder in ~ that was full of every version I could get while I tested. LCC 2.4.0 hasn't fixed anything for the many users who posted in, for instance, the textmate blog comments.

getting a MBP soon. i ordered a vx nano and v470 to try them both out and decide which to keep. worried about the software though, i wish steermouse and such were free.

logitech may have problems with SOFTWARE in macs but the mice themselves are friggin excellent. ever since the mx700 came out years ago i was a convert. their mice are just most comfortable and very capable.

their keyboard are really really sweet too. if i were using a desktop i'd be using a logitech keyboard.

i just wish the logitech folk would make a solid LLC for mac os x

LCC is the greatest mouse software ever developed!! :D

v.2.4 works great with my MX Revolution. All the buttons are programmed. Forward/back, expose, dashboard, spaces, spotlight, plus all the regular buttons and some programmed key combos. No APE to cause problems and never had a kernel panic. Best of all, no third party software expense.

I have to laugh at these rants, like they'll really do any good. Just because someone can't get it to work, it's crap. No worries, I'll just keep on using and enjoying LCC.

Soooo, instead of wasting money on a Logitech mouse, we should instead waste money on a Mighty Mouse (which has issues of it's own)? What alternative would you suggest since you don't approve of Logitech? I'd like to know....

if it works or doesn't work on your system, it'd help if you give details on your system (hardware, OS version etc, please indicate if it's 10.5.2 or something). maybe we can figure it out which kinds of systems work etc.

APE was a major know issue with the upgrade to Leopard ... many apps that used it went off the deep end with the OS upgrade.

However, even if you get the latest drivers. That doesn't mean all the issues will be gone for everyone.

Still like the devices I don't need drivers for.

ok what is ape?

ya my problems first were that the programable buttons would choose there default settings randomly and do so totally randomly even if changed back they would go back to what i programed them to do.

then now my device is not even found by lcc.
which is why they sent me a new mouse.
which didn't fix anything
but it did practically give me money as i payed less for it then what i returned the old one in the new package for.

I NEED A M*($(*#*ING MOUSE THAT WORKS.
with the same wheel as the vx revolution (it has two settings one clicks one doesn't and keeps rolling on and on which is magical, only reason why i haven't bought another)
then two programable buttons on the left side (back and forward in internet)
then no zoom bar next to the left button should be behind the two left buttons so you do not hit them a lot.
then two buttons on the right where the pinky is just to use as i want to do (do not only let me choose open google or something)

and all the buttons should be able to be whatever you want as when you use other os's its easier and for games.

why is this so hard to do.

make it bluetooth and with a usb connector that stays in the mouse if you need it.

hey maybe its time i draw up a cad for this....

I beg to disagree.

My MX revolution is easily the best mouse I've ever had and the new LCC works like a charm. No problems whatsoever.

Anecdotally, the OP seems to be spreading outdated information.

Logitech mouse software (LCC) has been fully stable for me for both Tiger and Leopard, and has distinctly improved since they made it officially compatible with 10.5.

And it's caused no trouble for my wife's dual G5 system under 10.3 or 10.5.

No software is perfect -- and LCC has some quirks with my Revolution MX's side button -- but it's worked quite well since 10.5. And has never caused a Kernel panic.

The thread should really be "Don't install drivers bundled with Logitech mice"

actually I think this thread has moved beyond the point of being a complete waste of database storage and needs to be purged.

Read the OP. I edited in a link to the version tracker 2.4.0 version of LCC. Read the comments on that link. Very many unsatisfied customers. Everyone is getting the same old problem, or else they're getting something else, like a growl problem, or a textmate problem, or many other problems. How is this outdated information? Read my links before you criticize them.
