Are there any Apple ones that do work?

You didn't answer my question about new software installs.

If you can, try clearing you caches with something like Cocktail and check out this guy's list of font problems (from the discussion on Apple.com/support).

There have not been any installs since the update. (except cocktail just now) I was able to install cocktail, though I was not able to run it. I cannot open a finder window though, so I had to use launchbar to open the app. Then it could be launchbar, except launchbar will open other apps fine.

So far, Safari, iTunes, Finder, iPhoto, and cocktail don't work. Safari bounces twice in the dock, then nothing. iTunes attempts to open (i get the triangle in the dock), but then, before it actually opens, I get the "unexpectedly quit" dialog. iPhoto got all the way to "loading images" before it crashed. Trying to open a finder window relaunches the finder. Trying to rename a file that is sitting on the desktop relaunches the finder.

Mail, Address Book, TextEdit, Preview all work. This seems to contradict the "necessary fonts" thing on the font guy's page. He seems to include Safari, Addressbook, and mail in the apps that usually falter for having bad fonts. The only third party fonts that may have been installed would've been installed with MSWord. It has been installed and working fine for quite some time.

I tried to post the crashlogs, but they were too long to post here.

If you have any more suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks,

I would suggest removing any hacks/customisations that you're using on the system.

I've yet to have a problem with the update on either machine.

How about Terminal? I recommended Cocktail because it automates some cache cleanup, but you can do it via command line, too. Failing that, maybe single user mode would do. Either way, we're heading into hairier territory.

I also second bous' recommendation about 3rd party haxies.

Just so you guys know, the final code for that security update was tested for 12 days before release. A normal security update is usually tested for 3-4 days.

I am not sure if this is significant though, you guys can make the assumption. ;)
