No, it isn't. while i agree that the air still is the best buy, the rmbp 13" has a much faster processor, better baterry life, better screen, more ports and loses 0 on design.

Also since it was found that the rmbp has free space inside, maybe we can have a discrete graphics card next year.

Yet the MBA and rMBP benchmark scores are identical.... The processor on the MBA is slower at clock speeds but it does boost up to 2.8 once needed, which rMBP goes to 3.1.

Battery life on the MBA and rMBP are also identical...

Man you guys are making me second guess ordering my MBA now.

True the MBPr is somewhat sexier with the black screen bezel and the smaller footprint but I guess it's also $500 more expensive, largely for just a retina screen. I've also heard rumors of ghosting, yellow tint (same issue the iPhone and iPad dealt with), and slower processing speeds as a result of the retina screen.

I paid $1700 for the first MBA back in 2008 so it seems hard to justify spending that much now on a first gen product - especially when we all know the device will only improve and prices will drop.

When the rMBP came out I was a little envious. After handling it in the store it was much nicer and boy that screen is nice but I it still prefer my Air to the thinness and weight. I know its not much of a difference between the two but i think they both play different roles. I will one day upgrade to a retina screen but for now im more than content with the Air

Yeah I've never been particularly impressed when I've seen them in person at the Apple store. Still, they are nice.

Wow.. people get really offended to the point where it's like they're being insulted about something they built themselves. I like Apple and all, but wow.. some people are obsessed. lol

The MBA 13 i7 w/ 8GB ram is the best ultraportable laptop you can purchase from apple right now. Don't trade it up for the rMBP unless your profession depends on final cut, 3d rendering, or making anime pornography.

Please do not let all these retina ads make you switch because the rMBP 13 is basically an MBA with retina, literally.

I have both the rMBP 13 and MBA 13 btw, crazy how crisp the retina is but the novelty wears off QUICK.

I was on the fence about all the 13" models but went for a good deal on the 13" MBA 4gb/128ssd only because I got it for $1025.00

I just can not see spending that much just for retina, and now with Apple's ultra portable's sporting very small ram and HDD, I would have preferred to get the new 13" refurbished 2.9 with 8GB/750GB, I need space more than anything, but I am happy with the MBA, just have to carry and external drive with me :(

They are the same size panels with the same theorectical resolution at 1440x900. Except that the retina has MORE pixels smoothing it out.

But the usable resolution is still "1280x800"... smoothing or not

The retina makes everything sharper but the real estate of the screen is still "1280x800".

rMBP 13 I gotta say dude......

After using the rMBP 13 and then going back to the MBA 13... it is literally like night and day. I was bashing about why the rMBP 13 is basically an MBA 13 with retina but you don't notice how much of a difference the screen quality makes once you start using it...

I apologize rMBP 13, you're the winner today.

P.S. I hope LG dies on the MBA.. Terrible panel..
