Your question is not clear, bu I am guessing you are talking about the iBEC and iBSS files.

You don't need these to jailbreak at the moment, you can just use the dev team app or the purplera1n app (my choice) to jailbreak.

However, in the future, Apple will release later formware (e.g. OS 3.1). This may fix some of the vulnerabilities used to jailbreak or unlock. When this happens, the iBEC and iBSS files may be needed to continue you jailbroken or unlocked state and still use some updates. For example, a custom 3.1 firmware could be used that does not update the baseband so the unlock can still be used. If that is the case then those two files might be needed by the iPhone to accept the firmware. Or at least, this is what I think the situation is.

EDIT: best get those files now, as to get both an official restore is needed. If OS 3.1 is out by then you would have to restore to that which would install any security updates and might blow your chances of ever havin a jb or unlock. Do it now while you can still restore to 3.0!

    Google is your friend. Otherwise:

Trickiest bit for me was DFU mode, this is different to the normal restore mode. There's a link in the above article to how to put your iPhone in DFU mode - follow the instructions exactly! You know you're in DFU mode if the screen stays blank (no Apple or USB logo).

Ah yes. Actually I used it. Go >>here<<, scroll down to "iBEC and iBSS Grabber" and enjoy. Very easy!

EDIT: forgot to mention that you still need to do a DFU mode restore - all the automatic tool does is watch the temp directory and copy the files when they appear, so you don't need to do it manually. AFAIK there's no automatic tool to obtain the iBEC and iBSS without doing this.

    OK, that's very helpful.

So all I need to do is put my phone into DFU mode?

I think so. The iclarified method says do a normal restore to capture iBSS, and a DFU restore to capture iBEC. But when I did that (2 restores take ages :( ) both the iBEC and iBSS were in the folder obtained from the DFU restore. So, you could probably skip the first "normal" restore (it says this at the start of the iclarified page too).

Start the Grabber tool, give it a directory to save to and click Start watching, then put your phone in DFU mode, restore it through iTunes, then when the restore is all done then the files should be where you told the tool to save them to. NB this will wipe everything from the phone, inc music, but you can backup first which should save things like text messages and emails.

Look in Firmware/dfu folder. There should be two .dfu files, one that starts with iBEC and another with iBSS. If so, you're done. If there's only an iBSS (or iBEC, I forget which ) then you only did a "normal" restore. Put the phone into DFU, and try again.

Put your phone into DFU mode first. Here's the guide: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1034

Timing seems to be the key - I did it by releasing the power button after what I guessed was exactly 10 secs. Keep the home button held down. Follow the guide!
