Everyone seems to be anticipating an ipad 2 price drop when ipad 3 hits the shops.
How much did ipad 1 reduce in price when ipad 2 was launched ?

Just wondering.

There was no reduction in price; it was taken off the shelves.

Actually, the iPad 1 was reduced in price by $100 between the time the iPad 2 was announced to when it was released. I know it's not the same as a price drop when the new model was up for sale, but it's still a price drop related to its' release.

So what makes people think apple won't do the same with ipad2 ?

Unlike the iPad 1, the iPad 2 will not be hopelessly outdated when the iPad 3 presumeably launches. It will still be relevent, and some people are hoping the iPad line will follow the iPhone lineup - where a lower version of the previous gen is sold at a lower price, in order to attract more people to getting an iOS tablet.

Not so.

Apple reduced the prices by $100 to clear out the old stock. The rumour is that the iPad 2 will be sold along side the new model but we'll have to wait and see if that is true.

True, and I had forgotten about that.

Not true! I bought an original iPad 3 weeks ago from a major computer retailer in the UK. It cost £249 (about $384) which was £100 off the original price. I believe I may have bought the last one at that price though, as it went up again to its original price. I haven't checked since though, so it may now have been withdrawn
