Just a heads up - apple debited my card for the full amount.

I had the money no big deal - and I don't know if the charge will drop off because it was just "verify funds" or it will remain.

Either way - unless you got the money today don't pre-order because your account will be debited.

That's really strange. They didn't debit my account at all.

Give it a few minutes..

03/12/10 08:39 AM $1.00

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

They will always do this with debit cards.

Yeah..

I mean, it doesn't matter to me but I know alot of people on here were asking this exact question prior to the pre-orders being available.

Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone who doesn't have the money today - but planned on having it for launch.

Hm, nothing on my account at all, even the pre-auth, and it's been at least 15 minutes since my order when through. Not even showing up as an unspecified pending transaction.

Apple hasn't charged you. What they've done is an authorisation hold. Essentially, it removes the amount from your available balance but doesn't actually remove the funds.

It's standard for all pre orders, even by other companies. The reason they do this is so that they can be sure they'll get the money on launch day, but without you being charged interest.

Usually the funds get released back to you automatically after a few days, so that the money is there for Apple to charge on launch.

Maybe it is a varies by bank? I use 5/3 Bank and they have a very nice online interface that updates almost instantly..

Like I said in my first post I figured it would drop off - usually after 72 hours but this COULD effect people who can't have their money held for the next 72 hours..

The money is no longer available to me until the "hold" drops off.

Dude you are really paranoid..

But if your card is lost/stolen they would cancel it immediately which means when they charge the full amount it wouldn't work. You would have to update the card in the account settings.

You need to use a credit card, because they'll post a freeze on the value, locking the amount of money of your purchase. When the device ships, they'll unfreeze the amounts and issue a purchase transaction.

Sometimes these transactions cross, and you'll actually see double the amount hitting your account.

I never use a debit card on online purchases especially preorders such as this

i hope i dont lose the card which i used to order my ipad :) ... but i just was wondering... its still 3 weeks and juts in case if i card is misplaced i would need to get the number changed right away

Don't pre-order unless the money is in the bank.

Honestly, this is a true statement for just about anything.

Don't stick your card number in if you can't pay for the item.

Well, somewhere in the last half hour they added a $1 charge to my account, but that's it so far.
