My wife works in the industry and told me from reliable source that people will be pleasantly surprised on the 24th. She stated--- extending shipping times are not a true reflection. She stated many with May shipping dates will be arriving on April 24th.

Chinese whispers??

My best friends cousin who's mother is a cleaning lady at Microsoft found a post it note from Bill Gates next door neighbour who says that his sisters dog walker heard from her ex-lovers rieice who is related to the resident photocopier engineer at Apple that shipping for Apple watches will be delayed by three weeks.....well that what his uncles parrot told him :)

It really is a common practice, but we're so "in the know" on this forum we have to realize the bias of overthinking due to too much information

I sell custom products. If I know a client will get something in two weeks I tell them 3, but I'll get on my guys and make them work harder and we'll see what happens.

Then I do nothing, he receives it in 2 weeks, and I get praise for being amazing. Basic psychology

Basically;
if it says 24/4 - 8/5 we get it on 24/4
if it says 12/5 - 26/5 we get it on 12/5

This was as I expected when first seeing the predicted delivery dates... No special knowledge, other than being involved in plenty launch day deliveries :apple:

Thats exactly what she said when I asked her about the delivery---She stated they will often under promise so it looks like they are over delivering. She stated a common practice.

Yes, it is common for companies to under promise and over deliver. BUT, apple has never given a date range with the first wave of pre-orders on iOS devices. It has always said "Delivers on X" not "Delivers between X & Y". That's the reason I don't believe your theory applies here. I think there is a problem somewhere. I have no clue where, but a problem none the less. And it's probably a lot bigger then we think. Personally, I think everything surrounding this watch dating back to September when it was announced has been a complete mess. Totally unorganized, rushed, delayed, & un-apple like. I think Angela has a lot to do with the problem. I just don't like her at all. She is not a good Apple fit IMO. And she gets paid too much as well!

With all that said, I have a 42mm SS black sport scheduled to be delivered between 4/24 -5/8...And I can't wait.

Giving a range is a standard business practice it's a cover your ass move.

If they tell us 4/24 and it doesn't come then we're all on the phone with apple trying to get a discount or something free

Or when Apple announces the watch is available on April 24th. Your average Joe who doesn't read up and stay in the know is going to walk into Apple And be unpleasantly surprised. And that's not even considering we the addicted who were refreshing Apple Store at 3am will also be a little bummed if there aren't watches delivered on the 24th.

I'm not ancy, but would love to have a launch day Space Gray on the 24th.

I'd be happy with that .... I get married on the 9/5, then a few days away, and back in time to receive my watch on the 12/5 :)

Don't sweat speculative information that comes from anyone but Apple. Here's why...speculative information that comes from anyone but Apple is speculative.

It's far from a standard bnusiness practice. I've never seen a wide date range for a preorder release. They have always been specific dates. This is certainly a first for Apple as in the past they have always given a specific release date for initial orders which is usually the launch date. To my knowledge for all the iPhone and iPad preorders in the past it's always been a specific date.

Screen production issue

if i remember correctly the sapphire screen had the production issues.
so i think people who order the sport watch might have better chance of getting theirs earlier. for May 15-26 orders

Look, don't get your hopes high. Yes there's a chance but no promises that you'll get it earlier. I remember when I ordered the iPhone 5s Gold for my wife around early November 2013. It was shipped 1.5-2 weeks earlier but mind you that was almost two months after its release.

The whole under promising thing works for after a product has been out for a while, usually it's pretty accurate for preoders. They'll probably ramp production around June-July when yields improve so people will start to get their watch earlier.

I'm a shipping coordinator / manager for my company
We send out 100's of orders a day. We always say 3-5 business days
But most most arrive 3 days ( sooner depending on location) . If we get a Huge order in or a shortage comes the we can still deliver within the range given

So when they get it early (withing 3 days) WE are awesome !
When they get in in 4-5) We are still awesome because technically we are on time still

Trust me if you tell someone a specific date and its not there. The world comes to an end . angry calls to cancel , or give a discount or waiver a fee or something. We have a huge client base

BUT we are not trying to ship out millions of packages to arrive on the same day all over the world

----------

with that being said .
I WANT MY WATCH on the 24th lol

i got a 4/24-5/8 date on my 42mm Sport Space Grey

Edit: And not Santa.

LOL . no release dates on our products is what im saying so we not under that pressure like for a item ha ha

we are #1 in our industry tho , but yea im sure Apple beats us LOL

Apple courier deliveries for preorders are never done on a Saturday.

I was disappointed when an Apple pre-order didn't arrive on the Friday and very surprised when someone turned up at the door on the Saturday instead. I can't remember who the delivery company was, it was a couple of years ago. The delivery chap explained that they had people working throughout the weekend on just those Apple parcels. I've been living in the same apartment complex with security who man a post room for over 10 years and this was the one and only parcel that has ever come up to the apartment door. The delivery contracts Apple set up for their product launches are pretty unique imo!

The voices in my head all agreed that his wife is incorrect.

In fact, many of the voices I hear also work in the industry and told me delivery times will improve only with the help of ritual sacrifice.

Oh, I forgot to mention that one of the voices in my head claims to be my wife, too.

I made a reservation for a Space Grey Aluminium. It says June, but I will be on USA on May, so I hope that shipping times change.

Yes. I can read. OK then. Who's his wife's "reliable source" or is that a top secret??

You realize that limited details can be given if he doesn't want to make his wife identifiable? Saying that she works for FedEx in China-US shipment logistics could be overly specific - and then we'd get NO gossip! :p

Hoping this is the case. My iPhone 6 plus was set to ship October 13 but was shipped on September 26 back in the fall.
