I know I am in the minority-- and it's just a rumor-- but I'd be bummed if Apple stopped including EarPods with new iPhone purchases. I get it, AirPods/AirPods Pro are all the rage right now (and for good reason), but I don't need premium headphones for my usage.

First, I don't listen to my headphones all that often, but when I do, EarPods are sufficient. So spending $200-$250 on wireless headphones doesn't make sense for me.

Second, sure, I have extra EarPods laying around, but that works for me. I can have dedicated EarPods for both my backpacks, one in my car, a set for the gym, one in my nightstand and not have to worry about keeping one pair with me all the time.

Third (and this is the most important point): I don't have to charge EarPods. I don't want another product that I am going to have to concern myself with charging at night or in the morning. It's just so much easier to have wired headphones that I know will work when I need them to.

Still, I understand that a majority don't share my view on headphones. And, even if Apple were to stop including them I still have enough spares laying around for my current needs. But, I always enjoyed getting a new pair with a new iPhone and keeping them as backups or giving them to a friend or family member when they needed one.

I saw them at Walmart the other day, they were 25 beaver bux. Crazy. I have my own because I prefer the fidelity. The Apple pods are ok if you don't have anything else, but they aren't the greatest. I think you could probably something on clearance somewhere that would destroy the Apple ones for roughly the same price. I cant speak for the wireless ear pods though. To me they make you look like that scene from There's something about Mary..

You can buy the stock earbuds cheap, should Apple take that route. They are plentifull.
EarPods are $29 if purchased separately.

Personally, given Apple's using proprietary connectors, they should at least include either EarPods with Lightning connector or a 3.5mm adapter.

I was speaking of buying second hand.

I grt the op’s point. I don’t use them. And even if I did, it wouldn’t bothrer me if Apple didn’t include them. If I want them bad enough, I will buy them. Apple doesn’t owe them to me.

If the rumor is true, it may end up being a prudent move for Apple in many ways.

It's an obvious money grab. There's no other good reason for leaving them out this year. For users who want maximum clarity on calls, EarPods are better than AirPods for sound quality.

Similar to the 3.5mm to Lightning adapter, removing it saves Apple money. If it were for environmental reasons, Apple could include a voucher for users to redeem the accessory.

Yep this. If they remove it, a voucher for $30 off that can be redeemed for either EarPods or AirPods seems fair.

I would love if Apple stopped including them in the box but gave you a voucher or coupon code to redeem them in store or online so if you wanted or needed them you would get them at no additional charge but if you didn’t you could just let Apple keep them. Either that or keep them in the box. Even though I don’t use them I’d be upset if you had to pay extra for them because they are a core feature of the phone and that would decrease the value proposition which Apple shouldn’t do - iPhone’s arent cheap but they have good value (in my opinion).

Spend 1/4 of that on something third party that are WAY better than EarPods?
Problem, proprietary Lightning connector and Apple no longer includes adapters with iPhones so you'd need to buy that separate.

If iPhones used a standard connector, this is less of an issue. Since they did away with the 3.5mm jack and with Lightning-based headsets not particularly commonplace, Apple should do something to make it right for their customers (e.g. include the adapter in the package again or provide a voucher for EarPods/discount on AirPods).

I've had two pairs of bluetooth headphones that cost me about £20/£25 each and are perfectly fine, you do not need to spend that on headphones if you arent bothered. The second set come with a carry case that also charges them so they are always charged when i want to use them plus it doubles up as a battery pack charger for my phone.

I personally never liked EarPods from a sound or durability perspective but that’s not the point.

I believe Apple is prepping for iPhones to become completely portless in the future and it won’t make sense to include these things anymore.

I must say, the earpods are the most comfiest headphones I have used in years! I even bought some imitation ones for my current android just so I got the same comfort levels!

I agree. I do not use headphones that often. Occasionally when my shuffle is dead I will use them to go for a run. I have numerous pairs of standard headphones around but only one pair that works with iPhone 11. Besides the cost of AirPods, I worry about losing one of them and I worry about having wireless signals directly in my ear. If iPhone goes port less not sure what I would do.

I still use my wired ones when I need to use them. I’m not a big fan of AirPods because they wind up giving me a headache. I LOVE the way the AirPods Pro feel in my ears, but I’m afraid to waste the money in case it’s the Bluetooth that’s bothering me (and yeah I also have those irrational thoughts about having Bluetooth by my brain).

I’m in the camp that really doesn’t care one way or the other though. I have enough of them stashed that I’d likely be set for life.

From a perspective of sustainability, I think removing the Earpods is a good thing. Can’t help but think about all those unused Earpods laying around. Removing them from the iPhone box could potentially also reduce the size of the box, thus also benefiting the environment by less material used and more units per shipment. Including a voucher as suggested here seems like a good idea.

agreement ONE MILLION PERCENT that wired blows away any Bluetooth earphones currently on the market for call quality

but since most people don’t care what the person on the other end hears, and just want to hear themselves babble, it’s a good move by Apple to add an extra $4.77 manufacturing cost to their bottom line per sale.

I hope it's not $29 for EarPods and then an additional $19 for the adapter.
