This was probably an isolated incident. Many people, including me, had products that looked near-perfect come as their refurb product.

quote skubish:I am not seeing how this is a newsworthy event? You have never received an incorrect order before? Return it or take Apple's offer.

well, its not a newsworthy event. these are discussion boards, i posted to see if anyone could offer advice from expirience. simple. i didnt see it on the news tonight. its just on this forum.

anyway, im giving in and keeping the matte screen. i need a pc and thats it. it will have to go for a replacement screen sooner or later though as there are two patches of pixels stuck on bright blue, each section is about half the size of this i. i think that warrants a repair job. jes this is causing a lot of grief!

cool app. thanks. how do you get a .net app to work on an apple? think il get rid of the thing completely anyway. apple say they will replace the screen, but i have to get it to a service centre myself, the nearest of which is about 25 miles away, and i dont have a car. the sales guy also told me that apple would courrier the broken laptop, but forgot to tell me that they dont use a courrier service in ireland. apple get better and better!

so, done whith apple. what new laptop do you suggest.

terrible to say, but dell always treated me well! came to my house to fix problems and replace parts and always told the TRUTH!!!

To the OP, you know there's some blind, diehard Apple fans who won't be completely understanding about your situation.

I'm sorry about your situation, and I hope that it works out in the end.

If you like Dell, I would get a Dell. When you get a refurb from anyone, you are taking a risk.

sure you take a risk, but you dont expect to order one thing and get something completely different.

Its going back anyway. They are giving me 150 of the price of a new one, and couppled with the 150 education discount i have that makes a new one almost the same price as a refurb. they dealt with it ok, and thats why im getting another one, as long as they do good on their 150 euros off when i call ( they cant give it to me until i place and recieve my new order).

Dell service is great but their laptops as of late are not too good. they used to be good, but i dont like them lately. and im trying to move away from windows, not completely but to have an alternative. thats the main reason i went for a mac.

Yeah... my roommate last year bought a new iMac and it was absolutely horrible - the order obviously had been filled with a refurb machine. Apple merrily replaced it, and it has been a Mac love affair for him ever since.

If the OP can't understand that one bad sales experience isn't the entire company, then I won't understand his "Apple is bad" nonsense.

Suffer from indecision or mood swings much? Yikes! Make up your mind already! Apple/Dell/Apple/Dell/Apple/Dell…

nope, no mood swings. trying to get this suituation solved as quickly as possible with the options i have. what i was saying there is a bit unclear.

dell used to make great laptops, and had fantastic support. they still have fantastic support but their laptops now days, leave a bit to be desired. hope thats clearer. thats what i was trying to say anyway. besides, its a lot of money to be throwing around ( at least for me, duno how rich you guys are) so i want the best thats on offer.

While you are here, how about those pictures?

Also, while the rep shouldnt have lied, why would you even think he could get you a glossy when there were non on the refurb store?

If he puts an order in at that moment it would have to be for a matte. Honestly, this is more your fault because you let him take you. if you wanted glossy you should have waited til one popped on the store.

While I agree that the OP should have used a little more caution, I also don't think the rep should have promised him a glossy screen if he couldn't deliver one.

if you have to question every little thing about a product twice and three times then you are in trouble now days. i was cautious. the web site specified neither matte or glossy and i wanted to check which it was. he said it was matte but there was a glossy also. a lie. asked him again before i confirmed the order and gave payment. what was i supposed to think, honestly? as for the apple centre, they are non existant in ireland. a few dealers sell the odd apple, but always low spec macbooks, not MBP's.note he also lied about the apple care plan, i asked if they would courrier away my broken laptop , should it break, and he said most definately. only when i called in on the support about the stuck pixels on the screen did i learn that there is no courrier service in ireland. i have to travel 25 miles to the service centre, and i have no car, and work during the day so thats out of the question. just to check, i rang up the sales line again and asked about purchasing the apple care, asked about courrier and he said the exact same thing to me!!! when i corrected the 2nd sales man, he said, "oh, sorry, yea, i didnt notice you were in ireland". funny that, as he had my address in front of him!!! you think i was silly, i think you have very very low expectations and no idea of your consumer rights. i pitty you really, it must be a dull world you live in
