Come on, we all know reviewers are on publishers payrolls ;) except this guy, clearly.

I don't like Gamespot. Never did, never will. Eurogamer and 1up are the only folk I listen to now. Hopefully it sparks the end of Gamespot or some big shake up.

    Ha ha. :D

I just posted about this sort of thing the other day, things really haven't changed that much in the past decade. :)

I never listen to game reviews.

And I never listen to movie reviews.

The only reviews I trust are the reviews of other customers like myself.

    ...unless I write them :D

Nah, but honestly, anyone who reads one review and goes with it is being ignorant. Tastes vary; different people prefer different styles and gameplay.

Read multiple reviews, and read the text, not the score. Look for key words that would sound to be of interest or might be a turn off to you. Think of reviews as a more detailed description of the game, rather than some kind of Canon that must be adhered to.

    Yep -

At its core, what is a review? An opinion.

What does everyone else in the world have? Opinions.

I've seen enough reviews I disagree with (in levels from slightly to completely opposite) that I no longer see reviews as anything worth the website or magazine they are displayed/printed on. :p

Grain of salt...awards and high grades are bought and sold daily folks...I think we all know that by now since most of us are lifelong 15+ year gamers. ;)

The trick is to find a reviewer that has a similar taste in games that you do.

    I wish...
    Sushi/Sushi X is no more ;)
that man was a genius...one of the few reviewers I had respect for/shared tastes with.

Nick Rox OTOH can go suck it  :p

I've never really let reviewers influence what I purchase..I read the reviews of customers(but no a days with the fanboys) Its all business these days. Gamespot has lost a lot of credibility in the past year or so....maybe they can get it together or disappear completely.

    Bless

^ It was probably the 'don't pay full price' for this comment at the end that was his death nail, but at the end of the day it doesn't surprise me one bit.

When big name games continue to get great reviews despite being down right average, how the hell can we trust any of the gaming sites anymore.

Penny Arcade has been ripping on game reviewers a lot lately. Gabe (yes, I know that's not his real name) goes into it in detail in the last link. There are some others I didn't bother to post.

Tycho (I know) summed up Gabe's position in 3 points:

    "1. Game Reviewers Are Wrong
    2. They Will Always Be Wrong
and the next one, the one that still brings out the sweat on their forehead,
    3. Their Method For Reviewing Games Is Corrupt In An Imperceptible Way."

The revolt has started. Apparently there's a huge influx of 1.0 rated user reviews for Kane and Lynch.

I post no link as I won't be visiting them again.
