“If you have an iPhone 11 or later, Apple is no longer offering new versions of iOS 18“
It costs them money/man-hours to test and implement security patches on phones that support iOS 26, that’s why they stop releasing security updates for newer phones at a certain point, to put those resources towards other projects. If we want the bugs in iOS 26 fixed faster, they need to let as many of their engineers focus on that ASAP, rather than continuing work on 18I really wish Apple would reconsider trying to get everyone on iOS 26.
It's clear a decent percentage of the userbase hates it and doesn't want it.
They should allow people to stay on iOS 18 (without needing beta mode), continue releasing security updates (which they're already doing for a few older iPhone models) and just make iOS 27 better so we'll actually want to upgrade next year.
I know people from Apple read this forum. Seriously, a lot of us HATE 26. We don't want it. Reconsider the policy for this year. Make 27 better.
Apparently something they don’t grant users this time around.Apple provided a grace period for people to remain on iOS 14 while iOS 15 bugs were worked out, but Apple ultimately wanted users on the latest version of iOS
The build number of the beta is reportedly the same as the official release that the iPhone XS and XR are getting (which aren’t upgradable to iOS 26).I just fact checked this and yep it works. However, I do not want to install any updates that are classified as a beta. I use Firefox on my iPhone anyway. Do I really need 18.7.3?
@joeblough Sign up on https://beta.apple.com/.You must enroll your Apple ID into Apple Beta Software Program.

It's clear a decent percentage of the userbase hates it and doesn't want it. There's always a few people who don't want to move to the new iOS, but I've never seen THIS much pushback in the 15 years I've been using iPhones.
In the absence of a robust QC consider all official releases as beta.Ok it’s installed. I hope I don’t regret installing a beta version.
They are still releasing security updates for the previous version, they just don’t let them be installed on devices that can upgrade to a newer major version, once it’s been out for three months or so. It has been that way for a number of years now (since iOS 15?). Previously they didn’t even provide those three months of overlap. This is a major deviation from previous policy, where Apple has released security updates for the previous iOS version for a year or so.
ios 18.7.3 public beta for my iphone 13 pro max is ~7.5Gb 🤔 is it normal?! I'm still on 18.7.2.
Liquid Glass is a major user interface overhaul that's polarizing, and some users are unsurprisingly reluctant to update for that reason.
At some point they will force update everyone on iOS 18.its not like iOS 26 will be forced installed on users still on iOS 18 - so long as you've got automatic software updates turned off.
You don't need to do anything or set anything or install anything to avoid iOS 26 forever.
Just don't click the "Install iOS 26" button and it'll never get installed.
Then move the settings app to the 2nd Home Screen so you're not distracted by that tiny annoying red badge on it.
