I'm one of those guys who has been following Apple's M1 mac release from a gamer's standpoint. I'm a huge Doom and Quake player from way back, and haven't seen anyone who plays FPS games and who has one of the new M1 Macs say for sure if Doom 2016 and/or Doom Eternal is playable via a WINE layer like crossover?

I'm super-optimistic to read your responses, so thanks in advance! :)))

AFAIK, the recent Doom games don't work via crossover, even on intel Mac, so they have no reason to work on M1 Macs.

I don't know about Doom 2016 or Doom Eternal, but Doom (all the older versions) work fine running on a Mac with the "GZDoom" engine. GZDoom is 64 bit and runs at normal speeds in Big Sur.

Which means that it will also run on a M1 via Rosetta 2. You don't need CrossOver.

And this video from Snazzy Labs, running macOS in a virtualized environment on Linux.

I'm wondering if the reverse can happen? Doom 2016 on virtualized Linux on a Mac? (Or a dual-boot with native Linux, for that manner?)
