What is that from? Every once in a while I hear ding dong and nothing happens. I don't necessarily have something open or are doing something specific. I can't zero in on what it is. Anyone have any idea?

You wouldn't have Adium chat software installed? Because when I first installed it, the default sounds were like door bell, knocking, etc.

My MB used to make a sound when Entourage was open, after each time it Automatically Sent/Received emails, and it used to DRIVE ME CRAZY until I realized what it was and turned it off. So look into the Preferences for Entourage if you have that running....

Sorry guys, no Yahoo Messenger, Entourage, or Mail use.

Have you tried online openning applications one at a time and trying to see which one causes the sound?

It doesn't happen when I open or close any application. It happens randomly or at some random time interval.

It has to be an App you have installed... Can you post a list of your apps?

if you have any webclip widgets that you made in safari that could be it. i had a similar issue with one that had streaming video as part of the clip and every so often a movie from the site would start playing.

iChat?

Do you keep iChat open? When a "buddy" becomes available or unavailable, it dings.

I don't have webclip widgets.

Sounds like Adium to me..

Don't have it installed.

I would check sound setting in the following: E-trade, Limewire, and Azureus... That's about all I can think of. Like I said, the same thing happened to me and it was Entourage.
Good luck ...

I checked Azureus and nothing about sounds that is on. Limewire and E-Trade havn't been open when this happens.

sounds like torrent client , end of download or some other software.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but his list of Apps doesn't show a torrent client.... so that would be a negative.

EDIT: my bad, Azureus is a torrent client. So YES, check that too.

Ok, I figured something out. But I still need your help. The doorbell sound happens when I receive an email at my Yahoo mail account. I know this because my iPhone alerted me at the same second as my Mac. However, this is odd because I don't have my Yahoo mail account linked to the Mail app or Thunderbird or anything else that I know of. Anyone know why this is happening?
