Ok, I figured something out. But I still need your help. The doorbell sound happens when I receive an email at my Yahoo mail account. I know this because my iPhone alerted me at the same second as my Mac. However, this is odd because I don't have my Yahoo mail account linked to the Mail app or Thunderbird or anything else that I know of. Anyone know why this is happening?

Do you use any chat apps? It might be a notice that comes through that.. I know in my Yahoo MEssenger I have to go in and disable the sound alerts for New Mail, etc...

Just for reference in case anyone has the same problem in the future. It is Connect360's notification alert that an XBox has been discovered on the network. This happens whenever I turn my XBox on. I never tied it together, but now that I know, I kept the setting.

That's a new one :D
Glad you figured it out... It must've driven you crazy!!

Yea, but I, through process of elimination, just went step by step until I got it. I figured it out a while ago, but I forgot to post up. I just added that post to make sure if anyone googles that in the future they will get this thread as a response and solution.

Here are my apps...

I didnt know you can install internet explorer on a mac

Happens to me too... but no XBOX here

Hey I have this same random doorbell issue on my MacBook Pro. I turned off all notifications in mail (though I know that the new mail sound was *not* set to a doorbell sound.).. still get the doorbell once in a while.....

I don't own an XBOX and I don't have Connect360... I haven't been able to track it to any particular application yet...

Any other ideas? I don't have a whole lot of Apps installed:

You can but its surprising to see it on Leopard as it was discontinued (I thought) about 5 years ago. What gives OP?

There are also lots of other browsers, I'd say OP likes to try out browsers, like me. Hey OP! Could you upload IE:Mac for me somewhere?

I never, ever use that IE. The only reason I had it was because I was having trouble with my setup using Firefox or Safari and I had to get another browser that doesn't run on the same protocols, so I got a very old version of IE. This is version 5.3, it is sickeningly slow and painstakingly pointless.

How to get rid of hourly doorbell sound?

I have come to realize that the doorbell chime on my macbook is coming every hour on the hour. There is no setting for this in time and date preferences, and the "Announce the Time" box is unchecked.

Anyone know where this might be coming from?

this thread was hilarious cause i went through it just like the guy posting the problem and had all the same programs, and then BOOM i had installed connect360 the night before

@Cyroceon
Thanks for taking the time to post the solution! This thing had been driving me mad for months and I had been looking for a solution everywhere

No problem. I've found countless solutions to countless problems by using Google and getting directed to a MacRumors thread. I just wanted to post up the solution for others, in case.
