I can't believe you need all that stuff.

1. Computer.
2. Earphones
3. Clothes + shoes
4. Towel, soap, toothbrush, etc.
5. Tissues
6. A cup and/or pint glass.
7. Bedsheets + pillows

Done. Everything else is just "stuff".....a luxury. That, plus you can buy what you need later when you've actually moved in and notice what you really need instead of what you "think" you'll need.

The only optional thing is a small fridge, but if you already have one, then sweet. I can't believe American teenagers these days live so luxuriously in dorms, and I'm still a uni student. So soft.

well a lot of his list could be consoldated and fit under sub titles. For the computer power strips are a must (monitor computer, speaker, printer that is 4 plugs right there) Duct tape believe me you want it. Best stuff in the world for making tempary repair or jerry rigging some stuff.

also an alarm clock is a must in collage or most of life. Quite a bit of stuff people bring is extra but a lot of stuff is a must.

but that being said go minimulist your first year. You find out how much just extra stuff you have and dont need. My 2nd year I didnt take a lot of stuff back with me and left it at home. Now I did bring a lot of other items to take some of its place but I had been there a year so I kind of knew what I was missing and had the experise for myself and the third year I took a little more just rounding it out. now this year (more so starting this summer). I took quite a bit more stuff but then again I moved off campus so those rules changed. I not taking much if anything more back with me in the fall when I go back but then again I flew home so I dont have the room and even if I drove I wouldnt be taking that much back withe me.

Hey thanks again guys...

Sorry for not explaining my situation better.
Because the school I'm attending is so small they actually share dorms with Cal State. (sounds like some fun partying to me:D  ). For some reason the website on my college about housing is fairly vague but here is what it says:

Student housing facilities consist of furnished studio dorm rooms with each room sharing a small bathroom located between two studios, connected on both sides by doors. Students can choose either a single or double room. Single rooms are private rooms containing one bed and double rooms contain two beds. All rooms also contain a two-burner stove, portable refrigerator, microwave, kitchen sink, bath sink and small desk. The monthly rental rate is $595 for a single room, and $375 per student for a double room. The approximate size of both single and double rooms is 300 square feet and all housing charges are billed to your CCH student account. CCH students can also use many of the facilities of California State University such as their large library, gymnasium and student cafeteria. For a virtual tour of Northridge Campus Residence, click here.

Students housed at Northridge Campus Residence are required to provide evidence of liability insurance in an amount not less than $25,000 per occurrence. Renters insurance covers you from liability for damages you cause to your apartment, protects your valuables in case of loss, and provides temporary living accommodations in the event your residence is damaged. If your parents have either a Homeowners or Renters Insurance policy, you may be covered under their policy. If not, you may purchase a policy from eRenter for $200 per year by clicking here. All students applying for a room at Northridge Campus Residence must pay a $30 nonrefundable application fee. Additionally, a $250 refundable security deposit is required from all residents to cover damages to the room caused by you. The following items are included in your monthly rental cost:

All Utilities Included
Weekly Maid Service
Free Parking
Recreation Room With Large Screen TV and Game Room Featuring, Billiards, Video Games and Ping Pong
Fitness Center
Pool, Jacuzzi and BBQ Area · Large Closet Space
Air Conditioning and Heat Included; Cable Ready Connections

- How do i get this picture to show up?
----------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for all the advice. I'm trying to follow "less is more" but the problem I have is my mom will help buy products while I'm living in her house still, but will not being sending me money once in California. And I'll be strapped for because I still have a MBP and Final Cut to buy...
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I still have to call to make sure they have WiFi, but I would imagine so. This is a huge dormitory that houses Columbia College Hollywood, Cal State, and a few small schools.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
300 Sq Ft is gonna be tough.... especially if i get a bad roommate...

Thank you all again for all your advice. I'll be out of town till tuesday, but if you all have anymore advice on dorm neccessities or even just dorm advice and college advice please let me know. I've been going to a community college for a year now so I kinda know college, but not the whole living on campus and what not.

Thanks guys!

P.S. Link to dorm layout because I can't get picture to work: http://www.columbiacollege.edu/info_files/pop_4_northridge.php?the_number=5

Get a room to yourself. Damn you get a lot of stuff for you rent. We have to pay extra for gym membership and that doesn't even have a jacuzzi!! Now who at Uni has a jacuzzi. We weren't allowed to park on campus and we didn't have air con. We had to pay for all of our organised events too. I'd get the bigger room and go out a smidgen less.

Jesus christ you're living in a nice place. My dorm had four walls and a closet, and not much else. 300 Square feet is HUGE, a 15x20 foot room equals 300 square feet. and MAID SERVICE!?!?! Don't even get me started.

What else can you all think of?[/QUOTE]

I would add:

-Bucket to Barf in

-3 Ft Bong

-Ruffees

-Sombrero

-Personal Robot to go to class and take notes for you

-Whiffle Ball Bat to fend off Frat boys

-Storage locker...or actually your Dorm Room will suffice as you will never sleep there...

-Time Machine, so that when you graduate, you can go back and do it all again.

Enjoy yourself!!

:D

Um......wow. I had a room that I literally shared with a roommate. No walls between us. Oh, and it was probably around 200 sq ft, and we got lights and electricity, a desk, a bed, closet, and that's it.

I'm hoping its nice and big... I'm just now trying to figure out what I can do about my snowboard...

I don't know how to lock it and keep it safe
