hi all,

i am sorry for posting a question that has likely been asked many times, but searching for .mac comes up with just about every thread.

I have dot mac, three computers that sync the calednar, mail, bookmarks, etc and i really like these features. i have found that i dont really do much more with .mac. the backup is too cumbersome and slow, i have hosted any sites, etc.

are there cheaper alternatives if all one wants to do sync these apps?

thanks

Googles offering is pretty compelling.

Use Google Calendar and add your iCal to it (publish your iCal on iCalShare first)

Then, you can use Google Browser sync which is only available as a Firefox extention. What this does is syncs your bookmarks with your Google account, so whatever PC or Mac you use, if you use Firefox you can have access to a synced set of bookmarks. It will also remember what pages you are viewing and what tabs are open, so you can open some tabs at home, go to work, and carry on viewing them there. Pretty nice. Firefox only though.

As for mail, you can add your Gmail account to mail. Enable pop access in your Gmail settings, and set it to archive mail that you have seen in Mail. Im not quite sure how well this would work with 3 computers though. Definitely wont be as clean as .Macs mail sync. But its worth a try.

All of this is of course, free.
