I had heard of an occurrence where if you installed windows 7 in bootcamp and then later turned the partition into a virtual machine under parallels (or any other vm), it would ask you for activation twice.

Would this be a problem, as far as setting up windows so that you could bootcamp for heavy duty stuff and then opening up the virtual machine (which uses the bootcamp partition) in OSX for lighter stuff?

Or is this a non-issue?

I was just wondering because I was planning to use this setup.

If it does ask you to activate again, just call the number displayed and if they ask you if it has already been installed just them them it's on my Mac. Then they'll give you the numbers to reactivate it.

I wondered the same thing, but I did it and it worked no problems. I figure maybe the activation code is registered to the computer, so it doesn't matter how many times you install it on the same comp.

Or the other possibility is that windows doesn't keep as sharp of an eye on their activation codes as we think

I know that both VMware Fusion and Parallels (now and for some time) have some sort of function that controls the whole double activation issue, and thus most wouldn't end up being bothered with this issue. But, there are some of us that still are searching for an answer; specifically for windows 7 pro in Bootcamp win7 and VirturalBox + bootcamp win7.

Has anyone had any luck or advice on how to go about getting win7 pro to activate and be valid in both instances? (Without having to call Microsoft and get a 'second' activation for the VM)
