What I'm looking for is to put 2 ssd's in this in raid1 and then raid1 2 pcss of hdd's and then make fusionDrive from there 2 raid1's. Can you make fusionDrive from logical disks or do they have to be physical?

Technically, yes. It will fit and run. However depending on usage, might be pointless. There's only sataII in the drive bays so no benefit from raid-0 or ssd in there. Might be ok with raid-1 or jobod for storage if speed isnt critical.

This and Fusion is asking for trouble if you ask me.

Why people here hate fusionDrives? What's wrong having 2tb of ssd speed for 200 bucks? Is it like "if you don't pay thousand bucks you can't play here"?

Making fusionDrive without raid1 is asking for trouble. I have experience...

The issue with this setup that you want to do is that it's just overcomplicating and also you'll have to take account of the actual sata 2 speed limitation of the mac pro internal connections. 300MB/s each sata slot. Also, those docks would cost you at least 50-100USD each depending on where you buy them, so you'll have to add that to your build cost. Having fusion drive as you already have mentioned is asking for trouble without raid1. I might be speaking for myself only but i think people appreciate things that just work without having "failed drive volume" in the back of their minds all the time, since not everyone wants to deal with raid1.

I need only one of those sleds, hdd's will be 1.5 or 2tb 3.5":ers I already own. 2tb raid1 with plain ssd's would cost about 1400$....
The sled I gave link in the first post costs about 90-100 bucks.

4th internal slot in MP remains to be used with disks that I can swap. 3rd disk has always been in the place for 2nd odd. Years ago, when I had more official work done by my own machine, I always had one raid1 and one raid0. System and video files.
