is there a way to have the iPhone shortcut on the mac as well? so when i double-tap space bar instead of " " it will change to "."?

You can just create a replacement for two spaces, in the Keyboard settings.

yes go into the general setting and hit keyboard and then go to shortcuts.

already tried that, got error "The original text cannot contain spaces"
