Hi everyone,
I ran an outdoor running session lasting almost 13 minutes, covering 2.32 km away, consuming 143 active calories and 162 total calories. For just over a minute, I shot, bringing my heart to almost 180 beats per minute.

After finishing, I performed a 30-minute martial arts session in which I limited myself to making simple technical movements, 3 minutes with a light punching bag exercise and an average of 163 beats per minute, without even sweating. 229 total calories and 179 active calories.

How is it possible? Why does Apple Watch calculate so many calories for a much less tiring and stressful activity than a run?

I ask again: does Apple Watch calculate the detected parameters of its sensors identically for all activities?
I ask to know if the sense of signaling to the device that you are running outside the home or inside is only to record it for your "sports history" and not to obtain different measurements.

Thank you all!

You getting more tired doesn’t necessarily mean you’re burning more calories.

For e.g running will tire you out faster and only burns calories when you run, plus the heart rate increases so your main gain their is exercising the heart more than anything else. However weight training burns more calories over time because your muscles heals and burns calories even when you’re not actively working out.

I have found the longer you have the watch the harder it becomes. Also the harder you workout the harder it becomes to achieve certain goals. I know I may be wrong about this but I feel the watch averages things out for you over time. I very rarely beat my wife at challenges as she does not work out as hard as I do. Don't get me wrong she does very well but I can't beat her even if I workout as hard as possible. And my 10 year old son is impossible to beat as their metabolism works at a higher rate. Please anyone correct me if I'm thinking this the wrong way.

You’re right. The challenges are catered for individuals based on their achievements and goals. I’m not sure how you’re comparing with your 10 years old but between you and your wife, it’ll get progressively harder for both of you as you guys keep achieving different challenge coins.

Thanks to both of you for your answers!
What do you think of setting up a specific workout instead? Does Apple Watch calculate calories differently for each workout?
Thanks!

It does. Before everything changed my wife and I set different workouts depending on what we were doing. Like treadmill was an Indoor Run. Weight training was set to Other. Stair climber was set to Stair Stepper. We currently do a lot of hiking in the mountains so we using Hiking for our workouts now. They seem to calculate differently but that is only a guess on my part from previous workouts when I did not set individual workouts. Over the years my workouts have seemed to settle in as I have achieved many award badges.
