My son has been using iOS 14.2 beta 2 and recently updated to beta 3. I’m trying to find out if anyone knows if 14.1 is released soon if it will allow a restore from an archived backup of 14.2 beta to transfer his information to the iPhone 12 running 14.1. The only option I see that is feasible is setting up the iPhone 12 as new, download the 14.2 beta (if available) then do a restore. Thanks in advance for any knowledge on this issue.

I actually came here to post this exact question. I have 14.2 B3 on my main phone and got my 12 coming this week which will of course have 14.1 on it.

I was thinking it would be nice to be on a final release for once as I have been on the beta for quite a long time. In my case, I don't have any computer back ups, just iCloud so I may not have any options really.

But would a 14.2 backup work on my fresh 14.1 iPhone 12?

If I have to put my new phone on the beta, before I can use my backup, it's not the end of the world.

It wouldn't as you can't use a backup from an iOS version that is higher than the one that is on the device.

Thanks. Figured as much.

If I setup as new, and download apps one by one would their date be restored through each individual apps icloud backup (if they use it) as I install each one?

I have been restoring from a backup for years. Maybe it's time to start fresh.

I use iCloud messages. Will it sync back the entire history of messages onto the new phone? (I have years worth of messages I have been careful to save.)
