4 years with iPhones and this is the first time I'm truly truly disappointed.

I have to agree with you. iOS 6 is almost like a developer beta.

- passbook not connecting to app store/available apps not functioning properly (plus you have to download the actual app to work in passbook? ridiculous)
- imessage connection issues
- imaps issues like you wouldn't believe
- phone running incredibly hot
- app store redesign is horrible when compared to the previous (perhaps it's just a 'getting used to it' deal though), but that's if you can even connect to the app store right now
- took over 2 hours to update my phone

Long story short, I love all my apple products and iOS 6 may be the first failure I've seen apple give to us in a long time. Nothing seems to be working correctly and is full of problems.

I shouldn't have been so quick to upgrade. Maps w traffic is the main app I use. The traffic data sucks on the new maps. Google covered all streets not just a few main one.

There's an official method of downgrading actually.. However, if you do this, your existing iOS6 backup will NOT work. You'll be starting from scratch (or grab an old backup from timemachine)..

Here's how..

Be a developer on iPhone. It's only $99.

Buy a Mac.

Install Xcode on said Mac.

Enable developer mode on iPhone.

Acquire old ipsw

Tell Xcode to downgrade iPhone to version of iOS you have as an ipsw file.

That's it. Works like a charm. I've done it a number of times to debug something I was playing with.

How do you enable developer mode?

I just tried to downgrade using a restore with the downloaded ipsw for 5.1.1 for my iPad 2 and received a message stating that my device was not eligible to install that build. So I think they have just stopped signing 5.1.1. I will try going into DFU mode and then restoring, but I am not confident.

Bummer since Slingplayer does not work in HQ mode in iOS 6 and that is one of my most used apps. Glad I kept my iPhone 4 on 5.1.1.

I would go with you, but I only have an ancient iPad 1 from a whole two years ago. I used to have Siri, but Apple took it off the app store and disabled the app. Thanks Apple! They make life so much easier!! I will certainly buy a new iPad now, even though my old iPad used to do the same thing fine!

Well played

In the archive window.. Just a button to push. Registers the udid with apple, etc..

Tried what you suggested and I can't downgrade from 6 to 5.1.1 on my iPhone 4. Using the latest version of Xcode (4.5) and it gives me an error message when I try to downgrade to the last 5.1.1 version (iPhone3,1_5.1.1_9B208_Restore.ipsw). Any suggestions?

OK on all of the above (Max, Xcode, developer, ipsw). How, exactly, did you "Tell Xcode to downgrade iPhone to version of iOS you have as an ipsw file" and avoid the error message "Your device is not eligible for the selected build?"

It's in the archive window. I've done it before -- it works. You need to make sure you have the certs for your team, the phone, etc.. You need to be a paid dev to do it though.

Oh, and you can't downgrade beyond what the phone shipped with, obviously.

Are you a PAID iOS developer? Do you have all the keys generated that you need to submit to the App Store? Is your device a dev. device?
