He is doing two things. One is renaming the current front row app to "Front Row 2.0" (so you can still use it). Then after downloading the front row installer from the apple link you are extracting it out of the installer. Presumably with the extracted "Front Row" app you will just drop it in the coreservices directory as well.

Exactly. I am just more the UNIX and terminal guy than the gui user :) It was the quicker solution for me. I just wanted to share that there is a possibility to do the downgrade. If anyone has a nice gui downgrade explanation I am happy to link it.

Being a more UNIX and terminal kind of guy - know of any way to make the GUI for Tigers Spotlight return to Leopard? I miss that GUI. (speaking of the "main" Spotlight window - not the mini-window that appears on your menu bar)

I'll give you 5 dollars. (I'm up to that now - in spite of what the sig says)

Yeah... I just checked it out and I don't like it at all. I liked the old spotlight.

I don't have any problems with FR 2.0 yet but i can see everyone's concern with it. It was limited to begin with and you got by, now that it's improved and they take away key features that made you appreciate it before it makes it even harder to like the new version.

Look at the logs, there are some apps still using calls that were deprecated in Tiger.

Front Row may have been one of them.

Could be Front Row 1.3 is making one of those calls on the exit from video.

This might be slightly off-topic, but did a lot of people downgrade to Panther when Tiger first released? Or is this happening with just Leopard?

Foreigner users

As a non-English speaker,I am Brazilian, the major problem in FR 2.0 for me is the inability to watch movies with subtitles.(.srt,.ssa,etc)

FR 2.0 doesn't support alpha channels anymore. The screen goes black as the first subtitle appears and you can only hear the audio.

Also:

1. I also hate that the music stops, when exiting FR.

2. Normal iTunes music stops, when entering FR. In the old FR it would keep playing, and you could just drop into the playlist in FR ("now playing"). Music never stopped.

3. The way the screen shifted from the OS X to FR (and back) was awesome in the old one. Now it's just basic and boring..

4. The way you see the cover when playing a tune is boring now, even with the "shifting sides" effect.. In the old one, the cover was nice and BIG!

5. Probably more reasons..
